Farha Talks Third WSOP Bracelet

Sam Farha
Sammy Farha now has three career WSOP bracelets.

Sammy Farha is consistently great, widely respected by his peers and recognized as one of poker's most popular players.

The only thing Farha hadn't accomplished in poker was actually attending one of his own bracelet ceremonies.

After taking down his third career WSOP bracelet in the $10k Omaha Hi-Lo Split Eight-or-Better event, Farha stopped in for a crowd-pleasing appearance for his bracelet ceremony in the Pavilion Room Wednesday.

Farha outlasted James Dempsey in a marathon heads-up finale for the bracelet, rounding out a final table that began Sunday night but didn't end until 7 a.m. Monday morning.

Understandably absent from the Rio Tuesday, a refreshed Farha was all smiles after receiving his bracelet.

"It's a great feeling, especially winning this Omaha Hi-Lo split tournament," Farha said.

"I also won it in '06. For me it's like two years in a row."

The heads-up battle with the UK's Dempsey lasted more than four hours before Farha took down the win.

All three of Farha's bracelet wins have come in Omaha, his specialty.

"I'll be honest with you - I had a great feeling," said Farha of his mentality going into heads-up.

"I don't know how James plays, but he won a bracelet two weeks ago, and he finished second in this event. So he must be a great player. I think with my experience it came out great."

Farha's previous bracelet wins came in the same Omaha Hi-Lo Championship event in 2006, when the buy-in was still $5k.

His first WSOP win came in 1996, when Farha took down the $2.5k PLO w/rebuys event.

Farha's proficiency in high-stakes Omaha cash games is well-known, and his WSOP record speaks for itself.

"The only way to make money is in Omaha," Farha said.

"I developed my own strategy, which is trying to read what my other Omaha opponents have. The only way to play is aggressive. It's maybe a little expensive, but in the long run it works out for me."

The 2010 WSOP continues through July 17. For comprehensive coverage live from Las Vegas tune in to PokerListings' Live Updates and News.
