Review

This book takes the reader on a hand-by-hand journey through the historic battle that was the 2007 Aussie Millions. Upon being crowned tournament champion in Melbourne, Australia in January of 2007, Gus Hansen set forth to transform his tape -recorded notes from each hand he played into what became this 370-page paperback.

If you are a slower-than-average reader, do not fear the high page count; this book reads like a breeze. Essentially what you'll find here is a poker pro describing how he approaches every hand with special focus given to blind level increases, ante level changes, table position, and of course, stack-size comparisons.

As any tournament player understands, there are several uneventful hands in the course of a five-day tournament, and at times, as a reader, you share in this boredom. But Gus does a solid job of limiting the amount of literature in these areas while still explaining his decision making.

When the going gets tough and the blinds get bigger, there is definitely a lot to be learned for the aspiring tournament player, especially for those who like the live game. There are times when the mathematical analysis is dubious and could use a more in-depth breakdown, but what Gus lacks in detailed explanation he makes up for in candor and honest introspection.

Not many pros are willing to divulge all of their in-game secrets, and in this book you will be able to find some that may help your game indefinitely.
