Everest Poker launches European Poker Championships, Germany hosts satellites
By Lianne Elias
Following the success of the Everest Poker-sponsored French and German Poker Tour's last year, Everest Poker announced last week it will be hosting the inaugural Everest Poker European Poker Championship, a pan-European poker series consisting of land-based and online satellite freerolls culminating in a championship event with a €50,000 prize pool.
Online satellites will be run exclusively at Everest Poker while land-based events are scheduled to take place in France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, Norway, Denmark, and Italy.
Munich, Germany, played host to the inaugural, live satellite series on Friday, March 3, 2006. A total of 120 players competed in the event, which was won by Wolfgang Hierl.
Hierl was awarded the €500 Championship buy-in and an additional €400 for travel expenses. A new player at Everest Poker, the German national opened his account at the poker room just two days before winning the European Poker Championship satellite.
The second live German satellite took place yesterday, March 12, in Troisdorf. Future events are scheduled for Hamburg (March 19), Landau (March 31), and Nuremberg (April 2).
Karin Schmidt, Everest Poker's German marketing manager said: "Everest Poker had a wildly successful collaboration with the German Poker Tour, and we are very pleased to be bringing more thrilling poker and tremendous prizes to German poker players."
