€2 million reasons to tune into Irish Poker Open
By Sarah Polson
The Irish Poker Open main event begins Friday, and up to 700 poker players will be taking their seats hoping that the luck of the Irish is with them as they vie for a guaranteed €2 million prize pool.
That prize pool is double the guarantee from last year's event and helps make the tournament one of the largest outside the U.S. as well as the second-longest running in the world.
The smell of the first prize payout of €550,000 has many poker sharks circling including Joe Beevers, Barney Boatman, Dave Colclough, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott and Chad Brown.
Vincent Melinn, last year's winner, has also returned to try his hand at a repeat win and another big cash.
The buy-in for the Irish Poker Open main event is €3,300 and registration ends at 2 p.m. with the tournament getting underway at 4 p.m.
The tournament will be recorded for television, but for those outside the broadcast range, check out the PokerListings.com Live Tournaments Section where Owen Laukkanen will be bringing the latest news and hands from the tournament.
