The event recorded 1,798 entries, surpassing the previous record of 1,625 set at UKIPT Nottingham in 2012.
This Estrellas Barcelona event generated a prize pool of €1,744,060 with just under €300k set aside for first-place.
"I'm incredibly proud to be part of the biggest live poker tournament that PokerStars has ever held,” said EPT President Edgar Stuchly.
“Last year's player numbers in Barcelona - both Estrellas and the EPT - were sensational. It is fantastic that we have beaten our own record and also now that of the 2011 PCA and UKIPT Nottingham.”
This record comes on the heels of the enormous Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in the US, proving that poker communities on both sides of the pond are still capable of drawing giant crowds.
After two Day 1 flights French PokerStars qualifier Julien Gaston, who played Day 1a, remains the chip leader with 282,800.
A handful of big-name players are also in the mix including Team PokerStars Pros Rino Mathis, Christophe De Meulder, Marcin Horecki, Angel Guillen, Juan Manuel Pastor and Andre Akkari.
Also through is Belgian pro Charlotte Van Brabander, one of PokerListings.com's "Players to Watch in 2013".
