Ladies take command at Mandalay Bay
By Erik Sylven
Will we get to see the first woman World Poker Tour (WPT) Champion this weekend? At least a couple of female poker stars are showing good form at Mandalay Bay, with Erica Schoenberg winning the last side event ahead of Anna Wroblewski.
Event 4 at the Mandalay Bay Poker Championship was a $2,500 No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament, and 118 people, including the 2007 Mirage Poker Showdown champ Jonathan Little, came to play.
Erica Schoenberg took first place and $105,875 in prize money, ahead of Anna Wroblewski, who received $71,540 for her efforts.
Schoenberg's best result previous to the Mandalay Bay win was a 16th place in the Fourth Annual Five-Star World Poker Classic in April 2006, which gave her $117,165.
Wroblewski won a $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em tournament at the Fifth Annual Five Star World Poker Classic in April 2007, and followed up by winning the Ladies Event at the World Series of Poker Circuit at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Most likely, Schoenberg and Wroblewski will receive a lot of attention when the main event starts today.
