EPT Baden Classic begins

The Tournament Room

It's all about Austria as the EPT Baden kicks off today from the Casino Baden.

Considered to be one of the most well-run events on the European Poker Tour, Baden promises to offer some grade-A prime-cut poker. Already signed up for the event is a full roster of PokerStars pros like Barry Greenstein, Vanessa Rousso, Chad Brown, Katja Thater, Hevad Khan and Dario Minieri, along with poker prodigy Annette Obrestad, fresh off her WSOPE triumph, as well as Patrik Antonius, Ram Vaswani, Barny Boatman, Age Spets and many more.

PokerStars' qualifier Joseph Mouawad recently won the EPT London and there's no question many players will be trying to emulate his success in Austria.

Last year it was German chief Thang Duc Nguyen who outlasted 331 players including a final table of Dario Minieri and Ben Johnson. Nguyen got heads-up against Johnson and in the end the "Duc" prevailed with pocket fours versus Johnson's K-3. Nguyen collected €487,397 for his efforts.

The payouts have just been announced and it looks like a total of 281 players have contributed their €8,000 to create a very healthy prize pool of over €2 million. First place will be a whopping €670,800, which is a considerable upgrade from last year.

What will happen this year? Will Dario Minieri give up on scarves forever? Will Hevad Khan remain quiet and polite? Will Annette Obrestad reduce a grown man to tears?

There's only one way to find out.
