EPT announces Season 5 schedule
By Sarah Polson
The PokerStars European Poker Tour released the schedule for Season 5 today. The schedule includes nine events so far with a stop in France re-added to the list.
"The new EPT season includes all the events which have made the past four seasons such a triumph with record fields across Europe and record prize pools," said John Duthie, EPT chief executive. "We have set very high standards and aim to improve on this still further in Season 5."
The season will get its start in September with a stop in Barcelona, then head to seven more countries on its way to ending the season with the Grand Final in Monte Carlo.
The schedule is as follows:
| Dates | Tournament | Buy-in |
| Sept. 10-14, 2008 | Barcelona Open | €8,250 |
| Oct. 1-5, 2008 | London | £5,400 |
| Nov. 15-19, 2008 | Polish Open | 21,000 PLN |
| Dec. 9-13, 2008 | Prague | €5,250 |
| Jan. 20-24, 2009 | Deauville | €5,300 |
| Feb. 17-21, 2009 | Scandinavian Open | 52,250 DKR |
| March 10-14, 2009 | German Open | €5,250 |
| April 18-23, 2009 | San Remo | €5,250 |
| April 29-May 3, 2009 | Monte Carlo Grand Final | €10,600 |
"Last year's EPT proved a massive success, generating a total prize pool of almost €40,000,000 ($62,000,000), 5,902 players (including 1,682 PokerStars qualifiers) and the biggest single prize pool ever generated outside Las Vegas at the Monte Carlo Grand Final," Duthie said.
The Grand Final produced winner Glen Chorny, from Ontario, Canada, who bested a record 842 players to win more than $3 million after winning his seat at PokerStars.
"We anticipate the EPT making an even bigger impact in Season 5, attracting more players from all around the world and even larger prize pools," Duthie said.
Player from around the world will be able to start battle for seats to the EPT events when online satellites for Season 5 begin on July 7 for the Barcelona event. Seats can be won for as little as $2.22.
