Annie Duke fired on Celebrity Apprentice final

Annie Duke was fired from her job on Celebrity Apprentice Sunday night, but at least her charity walked away a winner.

Joan Rivers and Annie Duke went to battle for the final time Sunday, tasked with organizing a VIP party and silent auction fundraiser for their respective charities.

The project leaders had to organize the event, procure donations for the auction and get celebrities to attend. They also had to help promote Kodak as the sponsor of the event.

As she's done all season, Duke clearly out-fundraised Rivers in the final task, raising $465,725 for her charity, Refugees International.

Rivers managed to pull in $150,830 for God's Love We Deliver.

In all, Duke told PokerListings she raised more than $730,000 for Refugees International during Celebrity Apprentice this season.

Bad Beat for Annie Duke on Celebrity Apprentice

Looking back, Duke said she is going to take two things away from her experience on the show.

Annie Duke
It appeared Rivers was more convincing.

One is the friendships she formed and the reminder of how solid her friends in the poker world are.

"The second is the tremendous amount of awareness and money raised for my charity," Duke said.

But fundraising wasn't the only criteria for winning the final challenge and becoming the latest Celebrity Apprentice. The final task was judged on five criteria, of which Duke won just two.

With Rivers able to claim a win on the final task, the only thing left was for the two women to have their chance in the boardroom to defend themselves and give reasons why they would be the better apprentice.

Duke was confident she had done the better job throughout the season. She'd raised the most money and won both of the tasks where she was project manager before losing in the final.

She said she wasn't surprised when Rivers was hired and she was fired, but there were quite a few stunned TV viewers who were, claiming Trump showed favoritism or that he simply chose the person with the biggest celebrity profile.

Celebrity Apprentice may have been a bad beat for Duke, but she's already well on her way to bouncing back.

She was in Boston Monday hosting a Children's Hospital of Boston fundraiser. Next she'll be jetting back home to California for a little break before the start of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas at the end of the month.

During the WSOP, Duke also plans to continue her charitable work with the Third Annual Ante Up for Africa Celebrity Charity Poker Tournament July 2.

"Refugees International is a small charity, and the awareness for the charity from me being on Celebrity Apprentice is huge," Duke said.

"I hope it will also help my efforts with Ante Up for Africa, which Refugees International has partnered with."

Annie Duke is a clever operator and powerful strategist. Her downfall was that she would say one thing in the boardroom, but do a complete about face behind people’s backs. I always had the sense that she knew when the camera was on. She played her audience as well as her team mates. Touche.

Annie was however unable to win Joan over because they are simply, opposites and Joan could not see any sincerity in Annie’s approach.

Joan Rivers on the other hand is brash, loud and abusive and has made a very successful living out of these personality traits that rub many people up the wrong way.

Nevertheless she is true to herself and despite her viscious assaults, which I believe were emotional outbursts and not meanign to cause harm, you at least know where you stand with Joan. She is a woman of conviction and lets face it, she got the better of Annie in the end – Annie’s halo of professionalism slipped on more than one occassion.

I think the right person got the job – it shows there is more to this show than simply showing the money or out maneuvering your opponent. It is about holding charity at heart.

I have always like Annie Duke in the RV poker games. However, her behavior and language on Celebrity Apprentice. It’s hard for me to imagine that she has four children watching on TV when she talks about giving a good bjob at the end of the day. Classy. Fbombs dropping all over. Joan isn’t the classiest gal going, but I was happy to see her win.

Ok, let me get this right.

Nepotism is a preferred hiring method.

If your relative walks out of her job, follow her out, you will be rewarded.

Throwing words out to others like “Hitler” and “Nazi” while in the board room is smiled upon.

If you make money for our company, we will accuse you of getting it from mobsters.

Get enough plastic surgery to be coupled with the newest Burger King man and we will declare you our winnter.

I was wondering why Trump made the last tasks to be so subjective.

After he fired Annie, I realized why.

There would be no good reason to fire her otherwise.

ANNIE you are the winner here. You can get along with ANYBODY. And, that is what is needed in corporate america to get things DONE. You did and said the right thing just about all the time.

Thank you for displaying the workplace reality we all deal with and have to act like at work in the positive way you did. You are the professional here and not Joan/Trump. I have see unprofessional work politics, and yes, Joan would be fired on the spot, however, when the boss is unprofessional and is part of the “gangster mentality” the highly-skilled, politically correct, desireable workforce gets fired for doing what they have been trained to do. I know because I was one of them. Watching Annie Duke was like watching myself. How hard she has worked to get to the top only to be trumped by a gang of bullies. It hits hard at the soul.

Another verification of the gangster mentality that this country has stooped down to being on the level of the rest of the world. Shame on you Trump for displaying this type of business role model to our next CEO’s of the country. Is this how you want the USA companies operating in the future? You, with your show and all your money, have a HUGE responsibility to be a role model and you fail on that with dis-honors.

How Ironic that Joan accused Annie of being Mafia when she and her and Trump are mafia-ing together to trump the whole game with his family and hers.

Please, CEO’s of America, see the lessons learned from this show and make sure your companies continue on with integrity and not the gangster/bully-ing mentality that Trump portrays.

The show should be called survivor and not apprentice. It is surviving the politics of the companies in this country through gangster – survivor-like mentality, ignoring the great skills that intelligent people possess to be successful in this world like Annie Duke and Jesse James.

Annie, you did an awesome job of keeping your cool and listening (something Joan doesn’t know how to do) when no one would listen to you in that boardroom.

It was clear that David quit because of Joan, duh people.

Sandra Bullock didn’t marry Jesse because he was an idiot. Thank you for a great role model for the guys Jesse!

Thank you for a fabulous role model for our girls Annie! We needed a tough, yet poise and professional role model on Trump’s show! It may have been the last opportunity to see that, since who knows who other gang members of Trump’s klan will show up on the next season for the pre-planned kindergarten supposedly professional business drama.

Joan, I never liked you in the past, and now you disgust me. I just feel sorry for your daughter since she is a product of your rude upbringing. Hopefully she can come into her own when you stop with the finger already.

God I hope they read these. I will have to check back to see their comments if any.

– Fired and learning that gangster mentality is more valuable than business skills to keep a job in this country (now world) since USA adopted worldly business ethics.

How is it that no one mentions that Donald Trump’s Sister in law, or ex sister in law Blaine TRUMP is on the Board of Directors for God’s Love We Deliver A 10 million plus a year charity located in New York City, with pictures of her and Joan rivers with their arms over each others shoulders, together on the 2007 and 2008 company pamplets.
Annie won hands down!!!

I totally agree with Gord well said Gord

I have lost all respect for Donald Trump and the show “Apprentice”. He was clearly sucking up to Joan Rivers and Dennis Rodman. Annie was the winner hands down and I admire her integrity. Not once during the show did she throw anybody under the bus or was lying.

Joan Rivers and her daughter acted like a couple of spoiled kids. They have lost any and all respect I may of had for them. Way to go Annie.

Donald Trump Sucks

Trump dislikes anyone talking bad about him, so he chose Joan Rivers. For God’s sake, Joan even recently called Tom Hanks a Nazi (Google the words Joan Rivers, Nazi, and Tom Hanks to confirm this). ————————————————————————— Joan Rivers is basically one nasty woman. I got sucked into this show late in the season, but never again. Donald Trump, you really are a ROYAL jackass!!!

The only thing Joan did all season was to avoid being fired from a consistently losing team. Not only did Annie consistently win, she was also a significant contributor to those wins … record breaking fund raiser, writing the jingle that beat a grammy winner, coming up with the recipe that won the food episode etc. Obviously a Fix.

Donald must think his viewers are too stupid to notice.
NBC should fire him and get Rosie O’Donnel to host next season.

What I saw on the celebrity apprentice was a sham.Annie clearly won and Rivers and her daughter belong on the Jerry Springer Show.
How Trump decided was a fix and unfair.I use to like Rivers but she is the trash she called Annie. It definitely was not fair and I will not watch the show ever again.I have watched every year good or bad but this was such a phoney decision Trump made . It was stupid and not real.and so unfairAlso Brandy and Annie should of been the last 2 . Not joan she should of been long gone. joan’s raising money and completing tasks were terrible even though she had high energy for age anda name .She did not have any results except for getting away with her nasty mouth. And knowing Trump was going to pick her from the start.

Robbie
2009-05-12 19:03:00

There was so many things wrong with this show and I hope Donald Trump reads this stuff

1. How can anyone hire someone who walked out on him once already. Just watching the show before hand would have been enough to say. Wow. How can I hire her

2. The boardroom attacks would never be tolerated in the real world. Joan would have been fired the first time she called Annie a name. And fighting to keep her daughter even though on the other team.

3. Donald lost my respect when he fired Kardasian for past issue but kept Rodman around. But than to top it off he hires Joan who was very unprofessional during the show

4. One of the big things that showed the fix was in was the results. I thought Annie celebrities were better and Rodman coming as he did was pure genius and worth the win for that category by himself. You knew it right now. Or the Kodak representive is a hick. Did he realize that it was a bunch of male impersonators. Very tacky. In a silent auction, you want money and not down to earth where anyone can come. It has to be classic and high class. The only thing that Joan did better was the photo look as you entered. The rest was all Annie but yet she wins 3 of 5. BS

5. How did the event planner episode not come up in the end again. That was another reason to fire Joan. Annie should have been complimented for how she handled the situation.

6. Home field advantage was big for Joan and yet Annie overcome this left, right and center. If this was in LA, Brandie and her would have killed this even more.

Overall, a very disappointing result,. But Trump is old,. Time to hand the reigns over to the kids. I will watch the show again because I found it very funny in the end. Lots that made me laugh. Plus his daughter is absolutely beautiful. One of the most attractive woman I have seen. We all knew it was fixed but your not watching for that. Your watching guys like Jesse, Rodman or even Joan who was very funny,

PS: Some good points above. I think your awesome Annie

2009-05-12 14:20:00

It was all about money. For Joan. Big surprise, the very next day, QVC had the Joan Rivers Celebrity Apprentice Boardroom jewelry collection up for sale. What an amazing coincidence that Joan just happened to be wearing the very necklace on the finale that turned out to be QVC’s special value. Didn’t read anything about the jewelry sales going to the charity. She may have raised 150,000 for her charity but she bragged in another article that she pulls in 4 x 37 million in jewelry sales annually. Well Joan, it was a beautiful necklace but I won’t be buying anything from you.

Surprise. Surprise. Trump shows favoritism in his choice. Any unbiased viewer knows that Annie should have won. She executed lightyears ahead of Joan, who would NEVER be hired by any real company. Holy crap, talk about a pile of baggage. Trump should have fired Joan when she walked off the game. Oh well, Trump’s loss and Annie’s gain. I’m done with his show.

2009-05-12 07:14:00

I was shocked at the poor sportsmanship of Joan Rivers and her spoiled, untalented daughter. When they quit….they both should have been barred from the show. I thought the Donald always went with the person who raised the most money, but it is obvious that he went with an OLD friend, instead of the person who should have won. It is a sham and I won’t be watching that show again. I believe they have lost a lot of “credibility” and fans.

Dennis
2009-05-12 06:55:00

Trump sold out this time. Last year (and all before), success was the only measure. Piers won by being cold, dominating and more productive than ALL others. So did Annie. Joan Rivers and her bitch daughter were not even 2nd place material.

The final was rigged from the start. Included the daughter (who admitted to conspiring with mom) to negate Annie winning first choice. Annie then proceeded, as always, to blow the other team completely out of the water with her efforts and donations. She collected $4 for every $1 that Joan Rivers’ team collected. Not even close.

I agree. I will not watch any more episodes of this show. Hate fixed races. I will not play or stay at any Trump facility. He can call Joan and get a bus load of those cross-dressing homosexuals to take my place.

What a bullshit production. This show and this network should be boycotted.

Thanks, Annie. You represented. Trump and Joan used a marked deck and you still won our hearts and admiration.

I thought Mr. Big Bucks Trump was all about money. Duke beat ‘what’s her name’ at a ratio of 4 to 1. Donald you should have listened to your kids who called it right!
Your show is a sham!!!! You made ‘what’s her name’ the winner because it was politically correct. You didn’t have the guts to make an unpopular call!!

Donald, Your fired!!!!

Annie is a chronic whiner, and a total “me” person – that’s why she lost. She’s not a team player, and that’s probably why she’s a great poker player. But in business? I wouldn’t work for her after what we’ve seen…

Sue Cline
2009-05-12 04:33:00

Forget Melissa, she lost. A 75 year old woman beat Annie. I love Annie, but I would gag if she said one more time “Joan offended the designer so the firm quit on us. . .blah blah blah.” It made Annie appear to be a chronic whiner, when she is actually a winner. And because the TV show lead us to believe Joan was being an appropriate manager with the designer in asking him to do his job, Annie’s chronic repitition of slamming Joan on hearsay only, without knowing the facts, made Annie appear common and vengeful in contrast to her true nature. Ditto Aly’s comment. . .that it would be neat to know what actually happened with David and Joan. . .since for me at least, it was Annie’s management of that development that got her fired.

Ken Putnam
2009-05-12 03:48:00

What a shame. Annie Duke won the game hands down. Aly (comments above) is right, who in their right mind would hire Joan Rivers and her nut case daughter to do anything. The only reason the daughter, I’ve already forgot her name, ever got to where she is has everything to do with her last name…not her looks or smarts. I never did have much time for Joan Rivers. Watching the last three episodes it is really clear to me now why that is. AND, arn’t Bob’s comments above interesting. Mr. Trump your a chump for firing Annie…she won the game.

I was a Joan Rivers fan until this show. Annie … you were a great project manager with a bunch of misfits.

Joan was right when you said white trash… to bad she wasn’t looking in the mirror.

She has no class… and that you have in spades.

You are a winner… not just in poker… in the biggest game of life.

Checking the Internet I looked up Joan Rivers’ charity. According to the 2007 Annual Report “God’s Love We Deliver” has on its Board of Directors none other than Blaine Trump.

Further checking reveals that Blaine Trump was (and maybe still is) the wife of Donald Trumps younger brother Robert.

“she learned Robert had bought a $3.7 million house on Long Island for his girlfriend, Ann Marie Pallan and, to make matters worse, was leaving her for Pallan.”

Interesting…?

Trump was clearly intimidated by Annie and Rivers acted like all of his bimbos. How would any corporation really hire Joan and her daughter. There verbal assaults in a boardroom would be fired immediately in a real business. Way to go Annie-you are going to have a longer and more successful life.

We want to hear from David the event planner as to what really happened.
