Former EPT Grand Final winner Pieter de Korver stood atop the chip counts after a very busy Day 1a of the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

A total of 647 players took to the felt for the $10,000 buy-in main event including Phil Ivey, Victor Ramdin, Jose Barbero, Dario Minieri, Vanessa Selbst and Chad Brown.

Even Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia got in on the action, although he busted early.

The PCA main event was almost a second thought as several events were going on at the same time.

On the main stage was the $100k Super High Rollers event, where Eugene Katchalov eventually defeated Daniel Negreanu heads-up to take the $1.5 million first place prize.

At about 7 p.m., to virtually no one’s surprise, online poker player Viktor Blom was revealed as the person behind the Isildur1 account.

The new Team PokerStars pro played a $10,000 promotional 100-hand heads-up match against teammate Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier.

Grospellier and Blom decided to add rebuys and by the end of the session, Blom had taken ElkY for about $15k.

Meanwhile play in the main event came to an end at 12:30 a.m. after 10 levels.

de Korver fared better than any one else turning his 30,000 starting chip stack into a veritable 245,000 chip monster stack.

Some of the other 272 survivors included Bernard Lee, Phil Ivey, Joe Cada and Owen Crowe.

Day 1b begins tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. while survivors from both Day 1s will return to the Atlantis Ballroom on Monday. The 2011 PCA continues through Jan. 15.
