Day 7: You've got that WSOP feeling

Michael Binger
Too bad, so sad - no bracelet for Binger.

By Sarah Polson

Another afternoon of poker brings two more final tables playing for a winner, a star-studded World Championship Mixed Event and plenty more action at the Rio.

Event 5

Play got under way a little later than planned for the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em with Rebuys event, starting at closer to 3:30 p.m. rather than 3 p.m. However, it has already seen three bracelet hopefuls hit the rail as the final nine play down to a winner today.

The first bust-out was a double one, as both Steve Gross and Jamie Rosen were all-in on Hand 5 of final-table action against Lyric Duveyoung. Neither player had a good enough hand to beat Duveyoung, or the chips to match.

The double bust helped bring Duveyoung closer to the chip leader, Michael Banducci, who so far hasn't made a whole lot of noise.

On Hand 8, Michael Binger, who started as the short stack coming in, was eliminated by Jeff Williams.

Stay tuned to find out who the winner will be later tonight. You may not have long to wait if the busts keep coming fast and furious.

Event 6

Final-table play began for the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo Split Eight-or-Better at 4 p.m. today, and there's not much action to report yet.

Scott Clements started the table eager for some action. He started today's play about midway down in the chip count and needs to make up some ground if he wants to overtake Thang Luu's lead.

Clements will have his work cut out for him as Luu seems to be continuing his aggressive style of play today as well.

Event 7

The players coming into Day 2 of the $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em event are all in the money, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still hurt to get busted out early in the day. There's a $2,897,440 prize pool with the top player earning more than $550,000.

That's quite a bit more than the $3,000-something that players are getting just inside the money bubble.

Leif Force and Aaron Kanter are two players who hit the rail early.

Dustin Woolf, on the other hand, is sitting pretty so far with the chip lead, and other players hanging in trying to make it to the final nine today are Shannon Shorr, Theo Tran, J.C. Tran and more.

Event 8

The $10,000 World Championship Mixed Event started play again today at 3 p.m. with 89 of the original 192 players returning. With eight different variations of poker being played and a high buy-in, only the best of the best and the bravest of the bravest were willing to take this one on.

They'll play down to nine today, and already some heavy hitters have headed to the rail. Barry Greenstein, David Sklansky and Tony G are all out.

John Hennigan, Sammy Farha and Andy Bloch have all managed to start adding substantially to their stacks early on, and other players still in it include Katja Thater, Eric Froelich, Greg Mueller, Chau Giang, Lee Watkinson, Doyle Brunson and plenty more.

Event 9

Players in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Six-Handed event got off to a running start at noon today with 1,236 hopefuls eager for some tournament cash.

J.C. Alvarado, Dan Alspach, Chad Batista, Steve Billirakis, Andy Black, Justin Bonomo, Dutch Boyd, Bill Edler, Antonio Esfandiari, Jimmy Fricke, Bertrand Grospellier, Hevad Kahn, Erick Lindgren, J.J. Liu, Sorel Mizzi, Max Pescatori, Victor Ramdin, Joe Sebok, Rolf Slotboom and plenty of others were in the mix when play started.

The field has already been cut down almost in half, with Jerry Yang among the busted as well as Robert Williamson III, Cliff Josephy, Humberto Brenes, Jennifer Tilly, Jamie Gold, Freddy Deeb and John Juanda.

Keep up on the action in the Live Tournaments section.

Event 10

There will eventually be some Omaha/Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo Split Eight-or-Better action at the Rio today as well. The event, with its $2,500 buy-in, is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. PT.

Last year this was Event 5 and it drew 327 players to the tables. Tom Schneider came out on top of that one, and his final table also included Annie Duke, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Chris Bell and David Benyamine.
