Daniel Phillips wins APAT English Amateur Poker Championship

The first live event of the Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT), the English Amateur Poker Championship, was won by Daniel Phillips Sept. 24 at the Broadway Casino in Birmingham, England.

The event easily filled its 120 seats as amateur players anted up the £75 buy-in for their chance at cash prizes, a trip to the European Poker Tour (EPT) Copenhagen event and more. As the champion, Phillips won the top cash prize, a gold medal, the Silver Championship Cup, a prize package to the EPT Copenhagen main event, and points for the player of the year competition.

The APAT is sponsored by PokerStars.com which gives APAT members the chance to play in high profile events for cash prizes worth thousands of pounds while only having to pay a small buy-in.

This first season of the APAT will feature seven national and international events ending with European and World Amateur Poker Championships. Online qualifiers will be available at PokerStars.com for international tournaments starting with the European Amateur Poker Championship in 2007.
