Daily 3-Bet: Rousso Bomb, Mercier Face, Poker w/ Tiger
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is the raw-meat and plow-lifting workout regime that allows you to keep throwing haymakers at the afternoon poker news cyborg.
Any tips for a future 3-Bet, drop a note in the comments. Weâll throw a link your way.
Today in the 3-Bet we find Vanessa Rousso getting lambasted for a, err, debatable move at the EPT Grand Final, Jason Mercier facing down the Russians for the Grand Final Open Face Chinese title and a rare opportunity to play poker (and golf) with the infamous Tiger Woods.
1) Rousso Makes Move with J6o; It Goes Poorly
PokerStars pro Vanessa Rousso has taken a lot of fire over the years from poker pros criticizing her play (type âaggressive callâ into Google and see what comes up).
Sheâs taking some more at the EPT Grand Final today for a, well, debatable move against one of the best players in the world, Ignat "0human0" Liviu. Here's Rousso's take on it:
Sometimes you get a soul read and you're wrong. Sometimes you try to be a hero with the J6 off and they have the old QQ for the rivered set.â Vanessa Rousso (@VanessaRousso) May 6, 2013
Pratyush Buddiga, who was at her table when it went down, explained it a bit differently:
Lool trying not to update twitter during tourney but Vanessa Rousso just played the worst hand I've ever seen in my life lololololâ Pratyush (@FenwayKing) May 6, 2013
0Human0 opens btn to 1200 at 250/5, she 3b sb to 3200, he makes it 8k she flats. Flop 398ss, she ck he bets 7500 she calls.â Pratyush (@FenwayKing) May 6, 2013
Turn 6 she ck he bets 16.5, she calls. River Q, she ck he's allin for 22.5 she hollywoods for 5 mins and calls. He has QQ and she has....J6oâ Pratyush (@FenwayKing) May 6, 2013
2) Mercier Cracks Russians for OFC Title
Jason Mercier has an ambitious, $1m tournament-earnings goal for 2013 that so far seems like a bit of a distant hope.
With just $50k in cashes coming into the EPT Grand Final 2103 hasnât exactly shaped up to Mercier's expectations.
He is entering a long stretch of non-stop poker over the next 70 days, though, and things are already starting to look up.
Mercier took down the â¬2,000 Open Face Chinese event in Monaco last night for â¬48k, holding off two Russians - Alexander Klimashin and Yakov Onuchin - in the final three.
Itâs not a major tourney title, but itâs a step in the right direction. As Mercier told PokerListings Russia reporter Arturs Kurvits:
âIt definitely wasnât easy, very tough final table, the points got really high and I ran very good in the end. Both of the Russian guys that I played against played very well and you know it was tough final and I was just happy that was able to win.
âYou know you get tired of playing Holdâem or Omaha over, over and over and itâs really nice to have different tournaments and OFC is a new fad in poker so itâs fun to be able to play it also."
Unfortunately for Mercier his momentum hasnât carried over to the Main Event today as heâs down to about 12k in chips heading into the dinner break.
3) Play Poker (and Maybe Golf) with Tiger Woods
We don't usually go in for promo stuff in the 3-Bet but this one is too good not to mention.
As part of the WPT's "Champions Week" leading up to the WPT World Championship an exclusive $10k buy-in charity poker tournament is happening on May 17 in cooperation with the Tiger Woods foundation.
Here's what your buy-in gets you:
- Entry to $10k buy-in tournament capped at 50 players including Tiger Woods, Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson
- A post-tournament party at Mandalay Bayâs Moorea Beach Club
- Two-nights accommodation at Mandalay Bay
- Two tickets to see Kid Rock perform at Mandalay Bay on Saturday, May 18
You can always give away the Kid Rock tickets.
You can also get a shot at playing in a Pro-Am with Tiger at the 2013 AT&T National at Congressional Country Club, the 2013 Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston or a playing spot at the 2013 Tiger Woods Invitational at Pebble Beach.
All funds raised go to the college-access programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation. For more info contact Jeanine Deeb at the WPT.
