Daily 3-Bet: Rousso Bomb, Mercier Face, Poker w/ Tiger

Vanessa Rousso
Soul read goes wrong for Rousso.

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is the raw-meat and plow-lifting workout regime that allows you to keep throwing haymakers at the afternoon poker news cyborg.

Any tips for a future 3-Bet, drop a note in the comments. We’ll throw a link your way.

Today in the 3-Bet we find Vanessa Rousso getting lambasted for a, err, debatable move at the EPT Grand Final, Jason Mercier facing down the Russians for the Grand Final Open Face Chinese title and a rare opportunity to play poker (and golf) with the infamous Tiger Woods.

1) Rousso Makes Move with J6o; It Goes Poorly

PokerStars pro Vanessa Rousso has taken a lot of fire over the years from poker pros criticizing her play (type “aggressive call” into Google and see what comes up).

She’s taking some more at the EPT Grand Final today for a, well, debatable move against one of the best players in the world, Ignat "0human0" Liviu. Here's Rousso's take on it:

Pratyush Buddiga, who was at her table when it went down, explained it a bit differently:

To her credit Rousso appeared on the EPT Live Stream today and laughed at the move, saying she just read the situation horribly wrong. More on it here, if you enjoy nerds being mean.

2) Mercier Cracks Russians for OFC Title

Jason Mercier
Back in the winner's circle.

Jason Mercier has an ambitious, $1m tournament-earnings goal for 2013 that so far seems like a bit of a distant hope.

With just $50k in cashes coming into the EPT Grand Final 2103 hasn’t exactly shaped up to Mercier's expectations.

He is entering a long stretch of non-stop poker over the next 70 days, though, and things are already starting to look up.

Mercier took down the €2,000 Open Face Chinese event in Monaco last night for €48k, holding off two Russians - Alexander Klimashin and Yakov Onuchin - in the final three.

It’s not a major tourney title, but it’s a step in the right direction. As Mercier told PokerListings Russia reporter Arturs Kurvits:

“It definitely wasn’t easy, very tough final table, the points got really high and I ran very good in the end. Both of the Russian guys that I played against played very well and you know it was tough final and I was just happy that was able to win.

“You know you get tired of playing Hold’em or Omaha over, over and over and it’s really nice to have different tournaments and OFC is a new fad in poker so it’s fun to be able to play it also."

Unfortunately for Mercier his momentum hasn’t carried over to the Main Event today as he’s down to about 12k in chips heading into the dinner break.

3) Play Poker (and Maybe Golf) with Tiger Woods

We don't usually go in for promo stuff in the 3-Bet but this one is too good not to mention.

Tiger: Excited to play with Hellmuth, we assume.

As part of the WPT's "Champions Week" leading up to the WPT World Championship an exclusive $10k buy-in charity poker tournament is happening on May 17 in cooperation with the Tiger Woods foundation.

Here's what your buy-in gets you:

  • Entry to $10k buy-in tournament capped at 50 players including Tiger Woods, Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson
  • A post-tournament party at Mandalay Bay’s Moorea Beach Club
  • Two-nights accommodation at Mandalay Bay
  • Two tickets to see Kid Rock perform at Mandalay Bay on Saturday, May 18

You can always give away the Kid Rock tickets.

You can also get a shot at playing in a Pro-Am with Tiger at the 2013 AT&T National at Congressional Country Club, the 2013 Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston or a playing spot at the 2013 Tiger Woods Invitational at Pebble Beach.

All funds raised go to the college-access programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation. For more info contact Jeanine Deeb at the WPT.
