If Garrett had this info things might have been different.

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a brown buff, a spot in a secure alliance and a very good shot to make the final afternoon poker news tribal council.

Have a suggestion for a future 3-Bet? Let us know about it in the comments.

Today in the 3-Bet we find a moving portrait of the life of The Simpsons co-creator and poker lover Sam Simon, get inspired by Thor Hansen all over again and Jason Somerville gives Survivor the probability treatment.

1) Sam Laughs Hard

Sam Simon
The awesomeness of Sam Simon can't be overstated.

We've made no secret of our blind adoration for Sam Simon and Jennifer Tilly over the years.

For two of the world's funniest and most talented people to throw their hearts into poker - and be willing to share it with us via interviews and asides at poker events - has been a literal thrill every single time.

We've had our own special moments with each of them but few things, of course, can capture them better than a heartfelt profile written by someone who knows them well.

Long-time friend (and former Late Show with David Letterman head writer) Merrill Markoe wrote an amazing feature on Simon's life for the new issue of Vanity Fair, which you can find online here.

We'd excerpt it here but it's decidely better you stop reading this immediately and go read it. We'll wait for you to come back.

2) Thor Hansen: 10 Years Crushing Flynt's Stud Game

Speaking of legend ... we think so highly of Thor Hansen's status as one we gave him an award this year to commemorate it.

And much like the charming Laura Cornelius in the video below we could sit around all day and listen to his stories from his epic life on the poker road.

We look forward to hearing a few ourselves at this year's Battle of Malta, if we're so lucky. In the interim here's a few great ones involving a legendary Hansen quote, his friendships with Stu Ungar and Larry Flynt and more:

3) Somerville Puts Survivor Through Probability Paces

Ever wonder if the color of your buff on Survivor has an impact on winning the challenges?  Is the number of confessionals a player receives within an episode a predictor of being voted out? Is the player who wins the game more likely to come from the first tribe to get fire?

Poker pro and Run It Up guru Jason Somerville did and, on the brink of a new Survivor season kicking off this week we get to reap the benefits of his research. Somerville revealed the results (generated by friend David Williams) on the latest edition of Rob Has a Podcast, the show hosted by former Survivor villain Rob Cesternino.

If you're not a fan of the show this may sound like a colossal waste of time. If you're fans of both poker and Survivor, as we are, this will scratch some weird itch you didn't even know you had in a very satisfying way.

Listen to the full podcast below; check the results of the probability analysis in the full Survivor Research Handbook here. If ony Garrett Adelstein had access to this before last season. If only.
