Any suggestions for a future 3-Bet, feel free to drop a note in the comments.
Today in the 3-Bet we find famed high-stakes fish Guy Laliberté’s tells exposed, Jennifer Tilly’s much anticipated Simpsons episode about to air and Kid Poker firing off some answers to things people want to know (or just came up with on the fly).
1) Elwood Breaks Down Laliberté, Heinz, Staszko Tells
We'll hold off full judgment until we read his book but we like what we've found so far from poker player/author Zach Elwood.
Elwood has a new book out called Reading Poker Tells and, based on his blog posts, looks to have some very good poker-specific insight.
(Compared to, say, another prominent "tells" guy you might see on the TV box).
Older posts with footage from the 2011 WSOP Main Event and some suspected tells of Pius Heinz and Martin Staszko are cool, as is his new series on the tells of Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté.
Based on a few clips from this year's $1m Big One for One Drop, Elwood exposes a few things he sees as tells including Guy's bet-timing, leaning and facial expressions.
What we like most about Elwood's analysis is it's based on first-hand knowledge of playing poker and its specific mental and physical quirks as opposed to a "general human behavior" model.
2) Simpsons Jennifer Tilly/Online Poker Episode to Air Sunday
We mentioned this a while back but we can now report the much-anticipated Simpsons episode featuring online poker is set to air this Sunday (Nov. 11) on Fox.
Titled "Gone Abie Gone," it's not exclusively dedicated to poker but will feature a guest spot by Jennifer Tilly (as herself) and Homer stashing Lisa's college fund on an online poker site because he doesn't believe in banks.
Hilarity then ensues. Here's the episode summary:
When Grampa escapes from his retirement home, Homer and Marge frantically try to track him down by following clues that reveal secrets in Grampa's past, including that he worked at a local restaurant with composer Marvin Hamlisch (guest-voicing as himself) and met and fell in love with the restaurant's singer Rita LaFleur (guest voice Anika Noni Rose).
Meanwhile Lisa tries her hand at online poker, getting tips from the experts, including Jennifer Tilly (guest-voicing as herself), but is soon gambling with her college fund.
Tilly's previous most hilarious TV appearance was on an episode of Poker After Dark (we kid, because we love her):
3) Negreanu Flies, Answers Random Tweets
What is it about Daniel Negreanu that makes him so revered by poker fans worldwide?
Could be his famous soul reads, could be his gregarious personality, could be his lifestyle ... or could just be as simple as he's a real guy, who says real things, makes real mistakes and tries to be as open and honest as possible with his life and career.
Negrenau had a few minutes on a flight to WTP Jacksonville yesterday and instead of putting the headphones on and watching Eat, Pray, Love again he held an impromptu Q&A session for his followers over Twitter.
Love him or hate him, you can't deny Kid Poker is always giving it for his fans. Some samples:
