Daily 3-Bet: Laak Back Taxes, Negreanu Vision, Poker Rap Saved?

Phil Laak
Lobbying for nickname change to The Artful Dodger.

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a stack of pancakes, a 100+ bowling score and a 1991 Nissan Micra giving shape to our dreams on the afternoon poker news vision board.

Got a tip for a future 3-Bet? Drop a link in the comments and we'll gladly take a look.

Today in the 3-Bet we find Phil Laak getting a tax slap on the wrist from the California government, Daniel Negreanu goes into the sweat lodge and comes out David Beckham and rappers Midwest Blessed soften our feelings on poker rap.

1) TMZ "Exclusive:" Laak Owes $24k in Back Taxes

Antonio Esfandiari
Peel off a brick for Phil, Antonio.

It's got to be pretty terrible to work at TMZ. Truly.

All that time spent digging dirt on D-list celebrities, mulling over stories on Katie Holmes' knee vagina ... it must just make you feel sad when you slip into the Ford Festiva and drive home every day.

We're not really sure why this story on Phil Laak drew their attention but it should probably win an award for most melodramatic framing of a non-story from a marginal person of interest.

Laak's debt owing? $24,874 for unpaid taxes in 2010 and 2011.

Pretty sure he might just find it in a random hoodie pocket. Or, you know, bum it off his millionaire pal Antonio Esfandiari.

Also, who calls Phil Laak the Unabomber anymore?

We feel dirty for even mentioning the story tbh but thought best to clear things up. Check the certifiable train wreck of a write-up here.

2) Negreanu Visions for 2014: Abs, Bracelets

How do you follow up one of the most impressive poker years in recent memory? Get better abs and play more golf, apparently. At least if you're Daniel Negreanu.

After posting his impressive financial breakdown of 2013 yesterday Negreanu followed up with a snapshot of his 2014 "vision board" last night with his goals for next year.

From what we can tell he wants to win three bracelets, improve his golf swing and get caught in a rainstorm with a young David Beckham. Early favorite: Probably the three bracelets.

3) Midwest Blessed: Warming Us to Poker Rap

If you're a regular 3-Bet reader you know we have a fascination with poker rap in all of its awkward, misplaced-braggadoccio glory.

This one though ... it kinda wins us over for some reason. It's got a good beat and you can dance to it, you know?

Also old guy gets quads and walks out with the girl. Something very poignant about that. Enjoy it below:

I'm not convinced on the Blessed Midwest. In many ways, but in particular the poker rap part.
