Daily 3-Bet: Jungleman Wax, Duhamel Ex, ISPT + Spice Girls
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a kiss-blowing, unrepentant guilty plea straight into the camera flashes at the afternoon poker news trial.
Any suggestions for a future 3-Bet feel free to drop a note in the comments.
Today in the 3-Bet we find Dan “Jungleman” Cates waxing philosophical, Jonathan Duhamel’s ex blowing her guilt away and the ISPT hinting at a big-name opening act for next year’s inaugural event at Wembley Stadium.
1) Dan “Jungleman” Cates Dabbles in Improv, Yoga
One of the most feared high-stakes pros in the world, Dan “Jungleman” Cates is pretty happy where life has taken him.
Plenty of travel, his own schedule, huge high-stakes games with celebrities in Vegas mansions .... you know, the usual.
That doesn't mean he has everything in life figured out, though.
In a wide-ranging blog post veering from said celebrity game to dabbling in yoga and improv comedy to seeing old "friends" to bouncing around Eastern Europe, Cates says he has his hands in a lot of things other than poker these days.
It's also an ongoing fight to make sense of it all:
"It’s astonishing how far the dollar goes in some places outside the U.S. All in all, it really is an eye opener for me. It’s very easy to lose sight of a clear world view. For me, it’s important to stay grounded.
"It’s important to remember that most of the world lives with much less. It makes me a bit sad to understand, both in detail and implicitly, that the world is not so fair after all."
2) Duhamel's Ex Pleads Guilty, Blows Kisses
Bianca Rojas-Traverse, the now imfamous former girlfriend of 2012 WSOP Main Event champ Jonathan Duhamel, pleaded guilty last week to three charges - conspiracy, theft and kidnapping - stemming from last years brutal robbery at Duhamel's home.
Somehow, though, she still managed to come off a little bit unhinged. According to the Toronto Star reporting on her plea in court:
"She entered with a wink and left blowing kisses.
"It was tough to tell from Bianca Rojas-Latraverse’s girly gestures that the ex-girlfriend of Canadian poker champ Jonathan Duhamel is destined for a lengthy stay in prison.
"The preppy 21-year-old brunette wore a white linen blouse with a khaki raincoat draped over her handcuffed wrists for the half-hour appearance that sealed her fate."
Referred to by friends as a "pathological liar," Rojas-Traverse didn't give a statement but is due back in court in Dec. for sentencing.
Duhamel, meanwhile, has decidely landed on his feet since the attack.
3) ISPT Hint at Spice Girls, Huge Opening Ceremony
Footage from the original ISPT press conference with Prosper Masquelier and Laurent Tapie has made its way to the ISPT website and, among the edited clips, a few surprises materialized.
For one, and for future reference: €20 million has been specifically guaranteed. Not specifically for the main event, but the words "€20 million" and "guarantee" were spoken together in reference to "the prize pool."
Also mentioned alongside a bit of grandstanding about the greatness of the Partouche group was an "opening ceremony with famous performers and surprises."
While no acts were named, Masquelier referred to the proposed headliners as "world-class" and the show as Super Bowl-esque. At the end of the clip an ISPT qualifier then mentions joining the Spice Girls at Wembley next year.
Full clip below (along with a strange 30-second clip with Constant Rijkenberg also posted at ISPT.com. He says he's gonna be there next year, in case you were wondering):
