In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at a poker tournament in Tokyo, Isildur1 terrorizing opponents on Full Tilt and StickyRice1 booking a big win.
1) Japan Poker Open Kicks Off in Tokyo with Vanessa Selbst
Japan remains one of the last countries that hasn’t been caught up in the poker boom but that may finally be changing.
Big-name pro Vanessa Selbst is currently playing the jam-packed Japan Open in Tokyo, which is sponsored by PokerStars.
The event is comprised entirely of online qualifiers, which helps organizers avoid awkward gaming laws in the country.
Winners receive seats in various tournaments around the world such as the Macau Poker Cup, Asia Pacific Poker Tour and the Asian Championship of Poker.
New PokerStars Pro Kosei Ichinose was also in attendance for the tournament, as you can see in Selbst’s photo.
It’s a ways off yet but you have to think a prestigious poker tournament in Tokyo would be a massive hit with poker players from around the world.
2) Isildur1 Binks Close to a Milly Over the Weekend
It’s been a rough start to 2015 for Viktor “Isildur1” Blom but the legendary Swede managed to turn it around in a big way this weekend.
Blom picked up over $700,000 on Full Tilt Poker over the last seven days, which put a huge dent in the $800k downswing he's been on since the start of the year.
He was especially effective against Patriktortonius (not THE Patrik Antonius) winning over $200k in 8-game against the unidentified player.
Blom is in a unique situation this year. Traditionally he's always gotten off to a red-hot start in the beginning of the year but then slowly lost most of his profit back.
Could this be the year that Blom overcomes a slow start to emerge with a potentially career-defining profit? Stay tuned…
Meanwhile Ilari Sahamies is on track for huge comeback year.
The famous Finn picked up another $200k this weekend which puts him at +$702k.
3) The StickyRice1 Show Goes On
Kai “StickyRice1” McMinn is an unabated poker star on Twitch.tv.
While his actual “skills” at the game are heavily debated, there’s no doubt that he runs an incredibly entertaining stream as viewers log in to see if he can hold on to his roll.
Well this weekend McMinn ventured out into the live arena once again and apparently pulled off a big win at Commerce Casino (looks like about $3,000 according to the following picture).
So McMinn is brash, entertaining, relatable for new players and can occasionally win? Someone get this kid a sponsorship deal ASAP.
