Today in the 3-Bet we find Phil Ivey contemplating a retro-hairstyle prop bet, NHL alumni get jerseyed by Daniel Negreanu and Vanessa Rousso and the only gift any poker player wants for Christmas.
1) Ivey: How Much to Grow 'Fro?
The picture itself is phenomenal but the possibility Ivey might grow it back for the year is the real chestnut. Who wants to start a fund? We'll throw in a fiver (meaning an actual $5 - not $5k. Who do we look like, Antonio Esfandiari?).
2) NHLers Thrashed by Negreanu, Rousso, Stapes at Charity Shootout
We know it's not the point (raising money for charity) or really that surprising (poker pros should beat up on amateur players) but if you ever need an elevator pitch for the skill vs. luck debate in poker just put on this video of the PokerStars NHL Alumni Charity Shootout airing now on SportsNet in Canada.
Episodes 1 and 2 with Vanessa Rousso set the table but Episode 3 with Negreanu really drives the point home. Pat LaFontaine, Denis Savard, Darcy Tucker, Brad May, Matt Barnaby... they all get jerseyed pretty bad.
We'll even throw it out there that poker's own Joe "Stapes" Stapleton gives Jeremy Roenick a legit knuckling in the commentary booth. Yeah, we said it that way. Start with Epsiode 1 below:
3) The Only Gift for the Poker Fan in Your Life
You'll see a lot of "Gift Guides for Poker Players" out there this Holiday season but trust us on this one.
There's one gift - and only one gift - every poker player wants under the tree this year: A $10,000 buy-in for the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event.
Forty-five years on it's still the gold standard in poker and the event every poker player dreams of sitting down and taking a shot in. Pricey? Yeah. Longshot? Certainly. Worth every cent? Yep.
If you can't afford the $10k though, these poker chips are pretty sweet.
Merry Christmas from the PokerListings 3-Bet! Watch for our annual year-end "Best and Worst Moments in Poker" series starting on Monday.
