Daily 3-Bet: Ivey at Bat, Russ Hustle, Super High TV

Phil Ivey

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a set of greased clubs, a 7-iron to four feet and a break-free uphill putt ftw in the afternoon poker news scramble.

Got a tip for a future 3-Bet? Drop a note in the comments and we'll take a look.

Today in the 3-Bet we discover the identity of Phil Ivey's mysterious drinking-bet buddy, time travel back to 2006 for a glimpse of how Russ Hamilton runs a golf hustle and settle in to our beanbag chairs for a long session with the EPT Barcelona Super High Roller live stream.

1) Ivey No-Drinking Bet with Kasey Thompson

We mentioned Phil Ivey's new no-drinking bet in the 3-Bet on Wednesday and now, thanks to the power of social media and the loose lips of Layne Flack, we know a bit more:

So we still don't know how much/how long but at least know who the fish on the line is.

A co-founder of All In, a poker lifestyle magazine, Thompson apparently made his bank early from "the Internet" (that old chestnut) and has been around the poker scene since around 2004.

Here's a clip of him getting stacked in a live cash game/chastised by Barry Greenstein when he min-raises with kings and gets crushed by a flopped set:

2) Thompson Fleeced for $700k on Golf Course

Russ Hamilton
Hamilton: Knows how to run a hustle.

So ... curious about Kasey Thompson's history as a gambler we naturally Googled him and came across this amazing "period piece" in Travel and Leisure Magazine from 2006.

Ostensibly about high-stakes golf hustling in Vegas (but hinting at so much more to come) the article features Russ Hamilton (yes, that Russ Hamilton), Thompson and a guy named Denny Mason.

The writer follows them over a round of 18 holes at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas where Thompson loses the shirt off his back more-or-less via a well-planned hustle by Hamilton and Mason.

It definitely offers some insight into Hamilton's capability to run a long-term scam.

It also makes it pretty clear Flack is much better off taking the Ivey side of the above bet.

Depends, we guess, on just how much Thompson has learned about swimming with the big fish since 2006.
