Daily 3-Bet: Hellmuth Odds, Hastings Shrinkage, Binking Bad
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a weathered copy of Play Poker Like the Pros and an old UB hat donated to the afternoon poker news silent auction.
Any tips for a future 3-Bet, drop a note in the comments and we'll try and include it in an upcoming post.
Today in the 3-Bet we find the odds looking very short for a 14th Phil Hellmuth bracelet this summer, Brian Hastings finding a noble-if-slightly-hubristic way to solve an overweight luggage problem and gaucho47 managing to find the worst possible way to bink a major tournament score.
1) No Money in Hellmuth, Bracelets are Solid
So, just how much of a sure thing is Phil Hellmuth to win bracelet #14 at the World Series of Poker this summer?
Pretty much a lock if the odds set by PKR are to be trusted. Announcing its betting odds open for the WSOP this morning, PKR has the early line on Hellmuth at 11/10 to win his 14th.
Not exactly a sure thing, but pretty close. And not the most profitable-looking proposition for potential bettors. Still, PKR's Head of Content & PR Dan Grant says, it's a price that won't last long:
"Last year we took plenty of stick for pricing Hellmuth at 4/5 to win a bracelet. But we'd done our homework, and were happy with the price. But many of our punters were too, and when Phil did the business we got stung!
"...we're back for more this year and I think Phil must have just as good a shot at collecting gold again, so we're courting disaster by offering bigger than evens. Given his record and the incredible number of final tables he reaches, I don't see the price lasting long."
Odds are also up for Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey and set at 25-1 for the four PKR pros - Vladimir Geshkenbein, Sofia Lövgren, Scott Shelley and Simon Hemsworth.
The line for Main Event entrants? 6,466. More here.
2) Hastings Solves Luggage Problem, Donates Dirty Clothes?
Speaking of Hellmuth and his propensity to share his charitable donations via social media...
High-stakes pro Brian Hastings found a particularly Hellmuthian way to solve both an overweight luggage problem and give to those "less fortunate" on his way to Las Vegas for the WSOP:
Best solution for getting my suitcase underweight. PUJ->MIA->LAS! @ Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana instagram.com/p/Z3OFRjrdLk/— Brian Hastings (@brianchastings) May 28, 2013
Yep. That's definitely one way to make a charitable donation.
3) Gaucho47 Binks SCOOP Title, Makes Legendary Graph
Here's one way to make around $80k in online-poker profit:
Not the best way, sure. But we're betting gaucho47, who won the $2k SCOOP 8-Handed event yesterday for $340k, is OK with it today.
