Daily 3-Bet: Breaking Blom, Burning Cash, Loving BOM
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a tainted packet of Stevia, an M60 in the trunk and some unfinished business at the afternoon poker news meth lab.
Got a tip for a future 3-Bet? Feel free to drop a note in the comments and we'll take a look.
Today in the 3-Bet we find Viktor "Isildur1" Blom doing his best to burn away all of his career online profits, some very happy WCOOP Main Event bubble survivors (PureCash25 not being one of them) and the tables put away after a truly epic Battle of Malta.
1) Isildur1 Drops Another $275k, Sinking Fast
We know the biggest-stakes games in the world are swingy. And you can easily lose millions in quick succession before sling-shotting right back up to the heights of a major upswing.
But, man. Viktor "Isildur1" Blom is doing a pretty good impression of a guy heading straight to the bottom right now.
Once on a $4m+ heater to begin 2013 Blom has given all of it back over the last couple months online and he dropped another quarter-mill to Ben "Bttech86" Tollerene last night.
By the looks of his highstakesdb.com graph Blom is now down roughly $2m overall on FTP from a peak of close to $6m up back in 2009.
Meaning he's down close to $8m in just under a year-and-a-half of actual play on the site.
Yikes. We haven't given up hope, of course, and there's always money from other sources (like this neato $11,550 he won in a WCOOP HORSE event yesterday) but still.
Please return to your former glory, Isildur, stat. It's much more fun when you're building myths than tearing them down.
2) PureCash25 Eats It with Set on WCOOP Bubble
So, that was pretty painful.
Given the pretty generous min-cash in the $5,200 WCOOP Main Event ($12,700) play at the bubble just moments ago got pretty weird with plenty of stalling and awkward play.
In the end 243 happy players made it through to see a nice return on their all-day investment. Some, like PureCash25 here, not so much.
The final table is expected to hit in about 8 hours with plenty of big names still gunning for the $1.87 million first-place prize including Jason Mercier and Dan Smith.
Download the software and rail the action right here; check some happy tweets below.
Yay, in the money!!!!!!!!! $12,000. THAT makes the all-nighter worth it. Very happy, extremely tired. Thanks for all the good luck!— Victoria Coren (@VictoriaCoren) September 30, 2013
Aiiiighhhht, we did it. My first WCOOP main event cash. Now, time to do work.— Shane Schleger (@ShaneSchleger) September 30, 2013
And we're in the money of the #WCOOP main! $12,700 locked up so far— Liv Boeree (@Liv_Boeree) September 30, 2013
3) 2013 Battle of Malta Smash Hit, Plans Begin for Next Year
In case you missed it over the weekend the 2013 PokerListings Battle of Malta was a pretty big deal. Like biggest tournament ever in Malta big deal. And €430k prize pool, €80k first-place payout big deal.
German Louis Cartarius took home the top prize but it's pretty safe to say all involved, from The Dudesons to Andreas Hoivold to Sam Holden to Naoya Kihara and the rest of the 888-player field, left pretty happy.
Or we hope so anyway. We loved hosting it and are already working to bring the Spirit of Poker back to BOM next year.
