Daily 3-Bet: Benger Surge, Blom Hell, Minieri Revival

Dario Minieri
Minieri: Still grinding.

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is the lightest, fastest seeker that captures the golden Snitch to seal the win on the afternoon poker news Quidditch pitch.

Any ideas or tips for a future 3-Bet (ie underreported or interesting poker tidbits), drop a note in the comments. We will link to you.

Today in the 3-Bet we find Griffin “Flush_Entity” Benger vaulting up the GPI Player of the Year rankings, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom falling into Limit poker hell at the hands of Jama-Dharma and Dario Minieri on the verge (we suspect) of a major poker revival.

1) Benger Skyrockets to #8 in GPI POY Rankings

Griffin Benger3
Benger: Blowing up.

It’s no secret we’re big Griffin Benger fans here at PokerListings.

We picked him as one of our Players to Watch in 2012, long before he was a big player on the live scene. We picked him as one of the first subjects for our Easy Game documentary series last year.

We picked him as one of the Most Fascinating People in Poker. And we’ll come right out and say it – we’re picking him to win a bracelet at the WSOP this summer.

So we might as well add 2013 GPI Player of the Year too.

On the heels of Benger’s impressive high roller win at EPT Berlin last weekend he’s soared to #8 in the latest POY rankings – up 52 spots.

He’s now one of four Ivey Poker pros (we still don’t know what they do, but still) in the GPI POY Top 10 and among such elite names as Paul Volpe, Scott Seiver, Mike Watson, Ole Schemion and Bryn Kenney.

Heady company, yeah. Check the latest GPI POY rankings here. And look for a new post-Berlin interview with Benger on PokerListings later this week.

2) Blom Torched for $800k by jama-dharma

Viktor Blom
Owned by Satan.

So here’s roughly what we know about online high-stakes mystery man “jama-dharma.”

For starters, he’s Russian. Or at least plays primarily from Moscow.

Jama-dharma means “ruler of hell,” or something similar in Sanskrit – at least according to this guy.

He’s a SCOOP champion ($2,100 Mixed Game Six-Max no less), a Limit specialist of sorts and he’s not afraid to tangle with the best players at the highest stakes online.

That includes Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, whom he obliterated for $800k in about 2.5 hours of heads-up Fixed Limit Hold’em yesterday.

So yeah. Seems like a guy who might be terrfiying in both poker and life. Already a $300k winner in FLHE in 2013, the huge session pushed him up over $1m in earnings for the year in his chosen game.

If you can read Russian you can follow him on Twitter here, but we're not making any promises that he won't kill you with his eyes eventually.

3) Remember Dario Minieri? He’s Still (Probably) Better Than You

Dario Minieri
Harry Minieri in 2007

There was a time in poker – call it 2007/2008 – when Dario Minieri was one of the most feared players in poker.

Ok “feared” is a bit strong – no one was really afraid of the Harry Potter of poker with the baby face and AS Roma scarf. But he was one of the most talked about rising stars in the game.

He had a Porsche Cayman bought from FPPs (the first player ever to do it), a PokerStars sponsorship and a reputation for unbridled, unpredictable aggression at the tables. In 2008 he also added his first WSOP bracelet, and things were looking nothing but up.

Since then, though, it’s been a bit hit and miss. At least in terms of big live scores. Well, more miss than hit really.

But he’s still a PokerStars pro, still a Supernova Elite (or near it, as he writes in his latest blog post), still working on his game and seems primed to burst back onto the live scene in a big way.

Or at least that’s our guess. Watch for Minieri to go very deep very soon – either at the EPT Grand Final or at the WSOP. Maybe. Check Minieri’s latest post here.
