Daily 3-Bet: Baazov Speaks, Dinner Beefs, Leo+De Niro Sell Macau
The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet dominates the underrated Short Film Live Action category of the mid-afternoon poker news world Academy Awards.
Throw us a suggestion for a future 3-Bet piece in the comments section below and it might just be featured.
In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Amaya CEO David Baazov talking about the “raid," Lex Veldhuis slamming Antonio Esfandiari and a high-profile casino ad featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
1) Amaya CEO Baazov Talks Police "Raid"
In late 2014 the Amaya offices in Montreal were raided by Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Financial Markets Authority (AMF).
It was a surprise that Amaya, which owns PokerStars and Full Tilt, would be targeted by the police but the company quickly played it off as a routine check.
Amaya CEO David Baazov did an interview with Business News Network where he reiterated the investigation was just a regulatory check up.
“The investigation is something we anticipated given that there was an historic stock run up in advance,” he told BNN. “We have no evidence of any wrongdoing and we’re cooperating with the investigation.”
Baazov went on to talk about why Amaya decided to target the Rational Group for purchase, saying that a lot of the underlining fundamentals in the company were very good.
The entire interview is worth a view here.
2) Lex Veldhuis: "Antonio Esfandiari is Worthless”
Poker players can be pretty chill people but whatever you do don’t get in the way of their dinner plans.
Lex Veldhuis recently went on Joey Ingram's podcast and gave a minor rant about Antonio Esfandiari. It was pretty harsh as Veldhuis called Esfandiari “worthless” at one point and a “massive douche.”
The main reason for the hostility?
Esfandiari invited Veldhuis to dinner one time but wouldn’t let him bring four friends.
Well OK, it was actually twice and Veldhuis also doesn’t care for his antics at the table but it seemed pretty minor.
Veldhuis is known as one of the nicest guys on the circuit so it’s a bit surprising he’s taken such a strong line against Esfandiari.
Perhaps there is more going on behind the scenes.
Decide for yourself (Esfandiari bit starts about 1 minute in):
3) De Niro, DiCaprio Advertise for Macau Casino
What do you get when Martin Scorsese directs Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in a short film in Macau?
An advertisement for Macau casino Studio City apparently.
In the short film, which is titled “The Audition” DiCaprio and De Niro compete for a part in a new Scorsese film where being good at high-stakes BlackJack is important. Brad Pitt is allegedly in the ad but he only appears as a still frame.
There’s a companion ad for Melco Crown’s other casino - City of Dreams - in Manila.
There’s a rumor floating around that Melco Crown paid $70 million for the advertisement, which the company has since denied. Check it out below:
