Complete unknown wins WPT Celebrity Invitational

Who won the World Poker Tour (WPT) Invitational - Paris Hilton, Donnie Wahlberg, or perhaps some famous poker star? The answer is Adam Weinraub, who takes home $100,000 in prize money and a $25,000 seat in the WPT Championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

It's not unusual for people to come out of nowhere to win big poker tournaments. For example, few had heard of Chris Moneymaker or Greg Raymer before they became world champions of poker - Moneymaker in 2003 and Raymer in 2004.

When something like that happens in a celebrity event, though, it's even more surprising. And while it's not fair to describe a person as completely unknown, it's fair to say that Adam Weinraub did not make a big impact on the poker scene prior to winning the WPT Celebrity Invitational at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.

Weinraub, however, displayed some excellent poker skills during final table play and defeated experienced pro player "Miami" John Cernuto in the heads-up match for the title. In the final hand, his Ah-Jh held up all the way against Cernuto's Qh-Jc.

Aside from the $100,000 paycheck and the seat in the WPT final, Weinraub received a trophy, a slick WPT chip set, and of course the honor of having defeated the Hilton sisters, Ricki Lake and Norm MacDonald in a poker tournament.

The final table results in the WPT Celebrity Invitational were as follows:

1stAdam Weinraub $100,000
2nd "Miami" John Cernuto $50,000
3rd Tim West $20,000
4th David Mosikian $15,000
5th Nick Cassavetes $10,000
6th Glenn Morshower $5,000
