Two-time WPT winner Scott Clements navigated a star-studded field to amass 266,500 chips on Day 1a of Party Poker WPT Montreal.

The Washington native snatched the chip lead but has plenty of notable players in hot pursuit including Sam Chartier (200,300), Elliott Smith (197,600) and Will Molson (185,400).

For some reason Clements always seems to perform well in Canada with both of his WPT titles coming in the country.

Over 100 players bought into Day 1a including Antonio Esfandiari, Kara Scott, Pascal Lefrancois, Byron Kaverman, Todd Terry and former WPT Montreal champ Jonathan Roy.

The aforementioned players all busted on Day 1a but will have a chance to re-enter on Day 1b of the competition. Or Day 1c.

Elias, Shorr, Dunst Survive to Day 2

Jeff Gross
Jeff Gross wouldn't mind a return trip to the final table.

Meanwhile Darren Elias, Shannon Shorr, Tony Dunst, Kevin MacPhee and Eugene Katchalov were among the 45 players who survived the day.

Jeff Gross, who made the final table of this event in 2012, also made it to Day 2.

Last year WPT Montreal attracted 862 players so expect the field to swell before registration finally comes to a close on Day 1c.

Derrick Rosenbarger ended up taking home the title for over $500,000.

WPT Montreal runs from Nov. 20-26 at the Playground Poker Club.

Each day begins at 11 a.m. ET so be sure to check out the WPT live updates.
