World Poker Tour Enterprises, Inc. (WPTE) is teaming up with professional tennis player Andy Roddick for a Texas Hold'em charity tournament that will benefit the Andy Roddick Foundation which focuses on helping treat abused and at-risk children.
The tournament will take place Dec. 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. For a $500 donation, people get a seat in the tournament and a chance to go head-to-head with Roddick and other celebrities.
The top prize for the tournament is a seat in the Season 5 WPT Celebrity Invitational, which includes three nights stay at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles. Second prize is entry into the WPT Boot Camp, and third prize is two tickets to the Andy Roddick Charity weekend dinner and auction Dec. 9 and two VIP Canopy Seats at the Tennis Event at The Polo Club Boca Raton Dec. 10.
"We are pleased to be part of an event that allows people to have fun and enjoy playing poker while giving back to children, families, and the community," said Steve Lipscomb, CEO and founder of WPTE. "By combining one of America's favorite pastimes, a gorgeous casino property, and the generosity from some amazing personalities, this is sure to be a successful event for raising support and awareness for a truly important cause."
Michael Bloom, president of the Seminole Hard Rock, added that the hotel and casino was also pleased to be involved once again with the Andy Roddick Foundation. "This is the second year for the Seminole Hard Rock's involvement with the Andy Roddick Foundation, and we look forward to many more. The partnership with WPT and the Andy Roddick Foundation enhances our community by contributing to such a worthwhile cause," he said.
All proceeds from the event will benefit charities supported by the Andy Roddick Foundation. The foundation was started by Roddick in 2001 with the goal of improving quality of life and enhancing educational and economic opportunities for all children based on respect for family, education and morality.
Some of the organizations that benefit from the foundation are Kids in Distress, A Safe Haven for Newborns, Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center of South Florida, Sun-Sentinel's Children's Fund, Here's Help, Settlement Home, and Austin Children's Hospital.
"We couldn't be more thrilled with the overwhelming generosity and support for such a crucial cause," said Roddick. "This partnership with WPT Events and the beautiful Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will make this a flagship event for the Andy Roddick Foundation. We look forward to what this event will help provide - fostering more awareness, hope and opportunity for at-risk children and families."
The event is open to anyone at least 21 years old. Those interested in attending can find more information or order tickets by calling (561) 620-9449 or by visiting www.worldpokertour.com/andyroddick.
