Celebrity tourney lures Bunny, TV stars

Playboy Bunnies, gas jockeys and cardsharps are all set to make their way to the Century Casino & Hotel in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for the casino's inaugural Celebrity Poker Tournament today.

Expect to see some of Canada's most famous faces gathering for the $270+$30 event in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Alberta. These include Tara Spencer-Nairn and Lorne Cardinal, the stars of Canada's most popular TV show, Corner Gas.

Other celebrities include former Edmonton Eskimo football great Singor Mobley, as well as Playboy model and WWE diva Rochelle Loewen.

"Century Casino knows the value of being a good corporate citizen and community ambassador," says Century spokesperson Dan Keene.

"We wanted to get behind and support the MS Society of Alberta, we know the community loves poker and we thought this would be a good way to do it. We're trying to raise $5k for the charity through the tournament and the silent auction and things are looking pretty good so far."

Considering the caliber of stars committed to playing in the event, it should at the very least be entertaining.

Lorne Cardinal plays Officer Davis Quinton on Corner Gas. He is a Cree actor and director from Sucker Creek, Alberta who has shared the big screen with actors such as Al Pacino and Hilary Swank.

He might not be the easiest poker target, however. You know they've got to play poker in any place called Sucker Creek.

Tara Spencer is from Montreal, Canada, and plays Dog River police officer Karen Pelly on the same hit TV program as Cardinal. She has no listed experience playing cards.

Singor Mobley was a standout football player at Washington State University before moving on to a professional career with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and the hometown Eskimos. Although the intimidating linebacker retired in 2007, he's probably not going to be pushed around easily on or off the felt.

Rochelle Loewen is a former Playboy Bunny, Fitness Magazine cover girl and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) diva.

The local media will be represented by CISN radio morning man Sean Burke, Sportsnet commentator and Edmonton Oilers play-by-play man Gene Principe and Edmonton Journal music writer Sandra Sperounes.

The tournament is limited to 77 entries and commences at 2 p.m. MDT on June 14 in Century Casino's new 24-hour poker room. On the day of the tournament, the silent auction will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m

Century Casinos, Inc. is an international, publicly traded casino entertainment company that owns and operates casinos from Cripple Creek, Colo. to Prague, Czech Republic. It will donate registration fees directly to the MS Society of Alberta.
