Can Ivey climb to a WPT win today?
By Sarah Polson
He's got five World Series of Poker bracelets to his name, but so far a World Poker Tour win has eluded Phil Ivey. His next shot at it is today though as he bellies up to the final table of the Mirage Poker Showdown in Las Vegas.
Perhaps the stars will finally align for Phil Ivey, who's made six World Poker Tour televised final tables. The closest he got to a win was in the 2003 Championship when he came in second to David "Devilfish" Ulliott.
And despite being considered one of the most intimidating players in the poker world, he's not going to have an easy time getting the win.
Ivey is going into the final table today as the chip leader with $1,395,000 chips, which may sound impressive, but Canadian Cory Carroll is right on his heals with $1,235,000 in chips.
Also sticking around the top of the pack is Darrell Dicken making his second WPT final table appearance and bringing with him $1,203,000 in chips.
The full final table will be:
| Seat | Name | Chips |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Richard Kirsch | $810,000 |
| 2 | Jonathan Little | $956,000 |
| 3 | Cory Carroll | $1,235,000 |
| 4 | Phil Ivey | $1,395,000 |
| 5 | Darrell Dicken | $1,203,000 |
| 6 | Amnon Filippi | $571,000 |
Some of the players who fell by the wayside as yesterday wound down to Season 6's first final table include David Pham, Shannon Shorr, Randy Holland, Nam Le, John D'Agostino, David Matthew and more.
They'll be slinking away into the shadows as the six remaining players get plenty of spotlight under the watchful lenses of the television cameras when play starts up again at 5 p.m. today.
