California State Poker Championship starts Sept. 2

By Arthur Crowson

It's a great time to be a California-based poker player.

With WPT Legends in full swing over at the Bicycle Casino the California State Poker Championship will kick off in barely a week at the Commerce.

Starting Sept. 2 and running until Sept. 21 players of all skill levels will have a chance to compete in No-Limit Hold'em events with buy-ins varying from $120 up to $1,580 that make up a total of 18 events. Satellites for the series are already underway at the Commerce.

There will be over $7 million awarded to poker players over the 19 days of poker with the main event offering a guarantee of $300,000.

In the past the CSPC has garnered the attention of well-known players and even local celebrities. In 2004 Hollywood mega-star Ben Affleck beat a final table that included Amir Vahedi, Raymond Davis and Jimmy Tran.

Last year Eric Crisp outlasted 362 players to take down the $324,815 prize for first place in the championship event of the CSPC.

With over 240 tables on site Commerce Casino is the largest card room in the world and in addition to the card tables it offers a full service 200 room Crowne Plaza Hotel.
