Bubble bursts at Doyle Brunson Classic

Daniel Negreanu

By Christopher Hunt

They're in the money at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Season 5 Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship. Or at least the top 100 are, with the field on Day 3 whittled down from 583 to a very skilled century club who are now assured of at least $25,370.

A star-studded field at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has been playing towards the $2.1 million first prize for three days now, with the Brunson Classic being the capper of a full two weeks of events in the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic series.

And while the heavy hitters have had some clashes so far, the narrowing of the field to ten tables in this one has squeezed them in side-by-side and accelerated the chances of some big name showdowns.

Still in the mix: Daniel Negreanu, Clonie Gowen, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, Chip Reese and former WSOP Main Event champ Joe Hachem, just to name a few.

The total prize pool topped out at over $8 million, with the Bellagio payout structure assuring the top one hundred at least a small piece of it.

Every player eliminated between 51 and 100 will get the same share, $25,370, with the final 50 working an ascending scale up to the winner's $2.1 million.
