The Epic Poker League announced today that poker legend Doyle Brunson will be given its first-ever “lifetime” player card.

Brunson will now be eligible to play in all future Epic Poker League tournaments without having to meet the standard eligibility requirements.

Currently invitations are limited to the top 300 tournament players as ranked by the Global Poker Index based on recent results.

Brunson will be awarded his card before the start of the next $20,000 Epic Main Event Wednesday at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas.

Epic Poker League co-founder Jeffrey Pollack says Brunson is at the very core of poker’s history and success.

"The modern history of poker is Doyle's life," Pollack told the Associated Press.

"It's unnecessary,” added Brunson, referring to the lifetime pass, “but I guess it's nice to be remembered for what we went through to get poker to this point."

"Most people just don't realize exactly what all transpired ... but we went through some pretty adverse things."

Beside being one of the influential “Texas Rounders” who brought the game to Vegas, Brunson also has 10 World Series of Poker bracelets to his credit and $6.1 million in lifetime tournament earnings.

He’s also the author of Super/System, the breakthrough poker strategy book that has become the poker bible for players around the world.

The next Epic Poker League main event runs Wednesday at the Palms with a $20k buy-in Mix Max No-Limit Holdem tournament.

Along with the Main Event, Epic has also added three open events to the schedule at the Palms starting today with a $2,000 Turbo event.

A $3k Six Max event runs Friday and a $1k Turbo will run Saturday.

The $1,500 Pro-Am has also reached its final table with nine players, including Andy Bloch and Dwyte Pilgrim, awarded $20k seats in the Main Event.
