Brown blows up in Biloxi

When organizers asked Team PokerStars Pro Chad Brown to host the 2009 Gulf Coast Poker Championships in Biloxi, Mississippi, they had no idea what was in store.

Playing celebrity host to the 12-day, 15-event Gulf Coast Poker Championships at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino - along with better half and fellow Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso - turned out to be only half the job.

Winning was the other half.

First, Brown took down a $500 Pot-Limit Omaha preliminary event on Sept. 10 for a $32k score.

Then Monday he went on to win the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em main event.

Coming out on top of the 143-person tournament meant a $225,567 payday for Brown plus a freeroll into the $10K WPT Southern Poker Championships at the Beau Rivage this January.

The final table at the Gulf Coast Poker Championships was filled with relatively unknown locals and Brown defeated Smithdale, Mississippi's Tyler Smith heads-up to win the title, flopping the nut-straight against Smith's straight draw.

The southern United States appears to be one of Brown's favorite places to play poker.

A month earlier he finished fourth at the $5,000 Gold Strike World Poker Open main event in Tunica, Mississippi, cashing for $48,088.
