Bodog.com has become the official sponsor of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" A Magic Night of Poker, Players and Stars which will pay tribute to Magic Johnson as well as raise money for his foundation and the Baron Davis and Paul Pierce Truth Foundations.
Calvin Ayre, founder and CEO of Bodog.com, will host the event along with Pierce and Davis.
"We're thrilled to be part of this event that brings together both sports and poker," Ayre said. "We often support charities that support education and other services for underprivileged young people such as building schools in Costa Rica through my Calvin Ayre Foundation and the work done by team and player foundations such as Baron, Paul and Magic's organizations."
The poker event will feature top celebrities, NBA players and VIPs who will test their poker skills in a Texas Hold'em tournament at the Avalon and Spider Club in Hollywood. Other events through the weekend will include "A Midsummer Night's Glam Jam," which is a night of music and fashion, as well as Game Day featuring celebrity and NBA all-star games at the Staples Center.
The weekend will close with the Champion Celebration July 9. Proceeds from the event will go to the three charities.
The Baron Davis Foundation and the Truth Foundation both work to help improve the quality of life and provide educational and life-enriching opportunities for disadvantaged and at-risk youth and their families. The Magic Johnson Foundation raises funds for community-based organizations dealing with HIV/AIDS education and prevention programs.
