The "Bodog Salutes Our Troops: A Tribute to American Heroes" charity event, which was held on Oahu, Hawaii this past July, will air on Spike TV this Sunday, December 18 at 12:30 a.m. (EST/PST). The made-for-TV special was produced by Bodog.com Productions and stars Bodog.com founder and CEO, Calvin Ayre.
The show will run for an hour, and marks the first time a company with roots in the online gaming industry will produce a TV special with U.S. soldiers and their families as the beneficiaries. The deal is also a first step in Ayre's master plan to turn Bodog.com into a 21st century media and entertainment conglomerate.
The TV special will feature the four-day event held in honor of the 110,000 men and women of the U.S. military who were awaiting deployment or just returning from service in the Middle East this summer, and were based at Hickam Air Force Base, Schofield Barracks, Pearl Harbor, and Kaneohe Marine Corp Base on Oahu. All proceeds from the event were donated to the Fisher House Foundation, an organization that assists troops and their families in times of need.
The fundraiser was attended by celebrities, musicians, comedians, athletes, and troops, all of whom participated in various activities, including a family picnic and a softball game. In addition, a comedy show and concert were held at the world famous Waikiki Shell, and a massive poker tournament was run at Camp Bodog on the beach, with the finals taking place at the popular Kahala Mandarin Oriental resort. The No-Limit Texas Hold'em tournament was hosted by WSOP tournament director Matt Savage and featured 15 celebrities, 10 Bodog.net players, and over 60 U.S. troops.
Celebrities in attendance included Estella Warren, Shannon Elizabeth, Jorge Garcia, Snoop Dogg, Colin Quinn, and Wanda Sykes.
