"Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker" has begun filming at the Bodog Compound in San Jose, Costa Rica, it was announced this week. A six-episode reality TV series created and produced by the Bodog Entertainment Group, "Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker" is looking to crown the next American poker star.
The series is being hosted by Bodog.com founder and CEO, Calvin Ayre, and 2003 Miss World Canada and BodogMusic.com artist, Nazanin. It will broadcast weekly on Fox Sports Net (FSN) beginning on April 15, 2006.
The series will feature 20 Bodog.com poker players, 10 poker pros, and 10 celebrity poker stars competing for a $500,000 grand prize. These 40 players will be divided into five tables of eight players each. The winner of each table nets $50,000 and a seat at the final table.
The losers from the five preliminary tables will enter a consolation round - one table for the poker pros, one for the celebrity poker stars, and one for Internet winners. The winners from these three tables will advance to the final as well.
The eight finalists will be joined by a "Wild Card," a mystery player not in the original player pool. The player who wins the final table captures the $500,000 and will be named "Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker" champion. Should the Wild Card win, he or she will receive $200,000 and the remaining $300,000 will be split amongst the eight finalists at the table.
Top pros slated to compete in the event including Jennifer Tilly, Phil Laak, David Williams, Evelyn Ng, Josh Arieh, Jean Gluck, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Lily Mizrachi, Humberto Brenes, and Erick Lindgren.
Celebrities scheduled to appear in the series include Rob Mariano, Josh Malina, Willie Garson, Willa Ford, Mitch Allen, Chuck "Iceman" Liddell, Jon Rose, Cheryl Hines, Kelly Hu, and Michele Merkin. "Extra" correspondent Jon Kelley will be covering the television series as well as playing in the tournament.
In addition to poker, the series will feature footage of Costa Rican excursions and performances by BodogMusic.com artists.
