Guns, Jets & Sex: A Scientific Study of Poker Fame v. Real Fame (w/ Graphs!)
Poker fame. The phrase itself is almost an oxymoron. Mike "Timex" McDonald has breathless fans following him into the toilet on the EPT circuit but wouldn't even get a nervous twitter in the Chipotle lineup. Even our most revered and recognizable stars - Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth - hardly face police-taped legions of fans waiting outside of regional airports. So why is "real" mainstream fame so elusive for a game with strong roots in nearly every corner of the planet? PokerListings investigates.

Former Counter-Strike Pro Griffin “shaGuar” Benger Now Streaming Poker
Former Counter-Strike legend Griffin “shaGuar” Benger is officially streaming on Twitch.tv but it’s not for the reason you might think. First off, Benger isn’t streaming Counter-Strike. Benger’s actually been out of the pro video game scene for quite awhile. Instead the Toronto native is streaming online poker and giving some incredible insight into what he's thinking when he's at the virtual tables. This isn’t a complete surprise since plenty of pros including Jason “Jcarver” Somerville, Jonathan Little and Dan O’Brien are already streaming online poker on Twitch with considerable success. Benger’s background, however, is unique since he was one of the most famous Counter-Strike pros and a member of the original Team NoA.

17 Unbelievable Things That Actually Happened at the 2006 WSOP
The 2006 World Series of Poker was memorable for a lot of reasons. For one, it was the biggest Main Event ever held with over 8,000 players getting in on the action before the Unlawful Internet Enforcement Act, passed later that year, put the brakes on the poker party. It was also the last year where online poker sites were allowed to satellite players directly into the Main Event so the Rio was a zoo as everyone tried to cash in on the poker craze. In other words, it was a high point for poker that some maintain we’ll never see again. Despite all the exposure at the 2006 WSOP there are a number of stories from that year that people tend to forget. Fortunately it was one of the first years that PokerListings covered the WSOP in full force so we still have a few tidbits to share. The following is a look at 17 underreported stories from the 2006 WSOP:

How Microsoft’s Wild HoloLens Could Change Live Poker Forever
You know how heads-up displays, or HUDs, have changed the way people play online poker? Well Microsoft’s pie-in-the-sky Sci-Fi headset HoloLens that was announced this week could bring exactly that kind of tool to live tournaments. Here’s the skinny on the futeristic device: It’s a self-contained headset, somewhat similar to Google Glass, but more advanced because it will actually overlay 3D holograms onto your real-life environment. While HoloLens offers some features of Virtual Reality headsets like Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus it actually has even more potential because VR devices are limited by their screens. HoloLens has a transparent screen/lens so it can project objects onto your real-world settings. This is Microsoft’s promo video for the device:

If You Can't Beat 'Em, Build 'Em: Bryan Berg, Card Whisperer
If you play poker at all, either recreationally or for a living, you inevitably will develop a love/hate relationship with the cards themselves. Sometimes, they're so good to you; others, they break your heart. As we all know, though, it's not the cards at fault. They're just inanimate objects that sometimes, even, can be turned into spectacular pieces of art.

Online Poker's Greatest Online Challenges Pt. 5: ChicagoJoey Goes SuperNova
Joe Ingram, aka ChicagoJoey, had already set a record in May 2009 for most hands played online within a month while making a profit. A total of 604,000 hands meant he had played a little over 20,000 hands every day. Even the toughest grinders online might take a week to play this amount of hands. But Ingram had his eyes on even more and aspired to be a record holder in three different disciplines: most hands played in a day, most hands played in a month and becoming Supernova Elite within 80 days. Record I: Most hands played in one month (604,000) Date: May 2009 Record II: Most hands played in a day (50,000) Date: December 2009 Record III: Reach Supernova Elite within 80 days Date: Oct 11, 2010 till December 31, 2010
