Friday saw the first of this year's four distinct events kick off with Day 1a of the £1,500 No-Limit Hold'em freezeout's beginning at 1 p.m. GMT in the Leicester Square casino. It's a four-day event featuring two Day 1's, each including eight 60-minute levels and a luxurious two-hour dinner break.
The NLHE affair will be followed by a three-day, £2,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament beginning on the 22nd of September, a three-day, £5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (Double Chance) tournament beginning on the 24th, and the Big Daddy, the £10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event, a five-day event in which the 500-player cap will be divided into two Day 1's.
The gang from PokerListings.com spent Friday on the floor at the Empire and from our perspective, the view couldn't be any better. Where Max Pescatori and Ben Grundy, John Juanda, Neil Channing and Erik Seidel. No Liv Boeree, unfortunately: the rocker had her tens cracked simultaneously by A-Q and A-2 when an ace flopped, consigning her to the rail midway through the proceedings. It is to sob.
Moving on, the action will recommence on Saturday at 1 p.m. GMT with the second flight's descent into darkness. We'll play eight more levels and take another sumptuous two-hour dinner break before calling it quits once again, and on Sunday we'll consign everyone into one group to play down to the final table. That's the plan and we're sticking to it, unless Effel or Elvis tells us otherwise.
