It was a prescient move.
Earlier this afternoon, that $2k event played through the money, with Mandy Baker seeing her nines cracked by K♥ 5♥ to burst the bubble.
Mercier was still around, sitting on a Top 5 stack and earning himself at least another $3,894 for his time.
But we're betting dude has his eye on that $569,199 first prize.
How else to explain his willingness to play for stacks with Big Slick and more than 70 big blinds to his name?
The hand in question occurred just before the dinner break and saw Mercier raise preflop to 5,900. Patrick Stemper made it 14,800 to go and Mercier gave the matter some thought before re-popping to 39,100.
Stemper put the kid all-in for his last 172,000 and Mercier snapped him off with A♥ K♥ to Stemper's K♣ J♦ (damn internet kids...).
Anyways, the flop came Q♠ 4♦ 3♣ but the turn was heart attack material, bringing the J♣ to give Stemper the best hand.
The river, however, was the dagger T♥ to give Mercier the Broadway Straight and fully 350k in chips, while Stemper was left with just 30k to his name.
