Day 20 of this year's WSOP will see two more events bow in the Amazon Room at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, which may as well be the moon for the amount of time those assembled will be spending outside.
Starting at noon is the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha w/Rebuys tournament. The poorer stepsister to the $5k iteration of the same game that played down to a champion on Monday, this tournament promises to be a spending spree of epic degeneracy the likes of which only the combination of PLO and rebuys can offer.
The first few hours of this event will be literally insane, so best stay home and let the trained professionals at PokerListings.com keep you in the loop.
Last year, this event played out as Event 33, attracting a total of 293 players. Those entrants rebought a total of 880 times, creating a prize pool worth $1,685,305. Twenty-seven players took a cut of that prize pool, including a final table that featured Hilbert Shirey, Brandon Adams, Chau Giang and Chris Bjorin.
Winning the day, however, was Irish billionaire Alan Smurfit, who defeated Qushqar Morad in heads-up play to claim the $464,867 first prize and his first WSOP bracelet. Not coincidentally, Smurfit would also win his first PokerListings.com interview on the same day.
Later on today, the $1,500 Seven-Card Stud tournament will kick off, with play starting at 5 p.m. and continuing over eight levels into the early morning.
A total of 395 players paid the buy-in to play this tournament last year when it ran as Event 14, battling it out for a prize pool that amounted to $539,175. Forty of their kind were paid, and the final table featured Greg Raymer, Barry Greenstein and Steve Sung, but it was Michael Keiner, a former plastic surgeon, who emerged victorious.
Keiner defeated Nesbitt Coburn in heads-up play to claim the $146,987 first prize as well as his first WSOP bracelet.
Besides those two exciting events, there are three more tournaments playing out to various stages of completion in the Amazon Room on Wednesday. Check our Live Tournaments section and last night's daily recap for the full report and we'll see you at the tables!
