The day began with two heretofore unknowns, Shawn Buchanan and Tim Herbert, topping the chip-leaderboard, with pros Alex Kravchenko with pocket nines. The board could not save JVA and he got a head-start on the buffet line with an elimination midway through the level.
Finally, on the last hand of the day, the "Unabomber" Phil Laak fell victim to the same fate as his girlfriend, as Tilly-killer John Juanda dealt him his coup de grace. Laak had pushed all-in with 6♣ 3♣ on a flop of Q♦ 6♦ 2♠ and was called by Juanda, who showed A♦ 7♦ for the nut-flush draw. The turn was a blank but the river the J♦, and Laak headed out while the rest of the field settled down for the bag and tag.
All told, 33 players survived the battle, meaning tomorrow's festivities will no doubt see the bursting of the money-bubble at 27th place. Chip leader is WPT PokerStars Caribbean Adventure champ Ryan Daut, with $322,300, followed by Shawn Buchanan with $278,500, and Tim Herbert with $277,300.
Also in the running are J.C. "El Fuego" Alvarado, David Levi, Chantel McNulty, Barry Greenstein, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, Jared Hamby, Steve Sung, Chau Giang, Alan Goehring, Gene Todd, Thomas Wahlroos and John Racener.
We'll play to ten finalists or five levels tomorrow, whichever comes first, and you'd best believe that PokerListings.com will be on-scene all the live long day. Tune in for live updates and photographs starting at noon Pacific Time, as well as all the rumors and atrocious puns that are fit to print. See you tomorrow!
