The preliminary tournaments have been underway since the beginning of October, and there has already been a ton of action as players gear up for the $10,000 finale.
In Event #2, $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em, both Minh Nguyen and Chip Jett fought their way to the final table and finished fifth and sixth respectively. In the $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em tourney, Nam Le was running good and finished second to Steve Dunning, earning $53,280. We saw another exciting final table in the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em event with Chad Brown, host of the Ultimate Poker Challenge, finishing second to Gene Todd. Joe Sebok played a solid game and made it to fourth place in this event before getting busted.
If last year's Festa al Lago main event is any indication of what we can expect this year, we're in for a show. With a star-studded line-up making it deep in 2005, there are a host of players itching for another shot at the title they came so close to attaining a year ago. Minh Ly took down the title and more than $1 million after defeating "Action" Dan Harrington in heads-up play. Gavin Smith was painfully close to another win, finishing in third place and earning more than $300,000.
The top 25 was a virtual who's who of poker greats. Gus Hansen, Darryl Dicken, Young Phan, Steve Brecher, Kathy Liebert, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, and Barry Greenstein were among the players who had a chance at winning this event. You can bet that after getting a glimpse of the winner's circle last year, they'll be back again, even hungrier for victory.
Unfortunately, not everyone can make it down to Vegas for this tournament - it's a shame, I know. But luckily PokerListings.com is giving you the next best thing. We'll work tirelessly, day and night, to bring you everything you need to know about how it all goes down. Like the saying goes; it's a tough job but somebody's gotta do it.
