I don't think there's another game with a more varied roster of players. For example, this year has seen a T.J. Cloutier are a link to those times. These days the rise of Internet gaming has changed the player base of poker. Some of the players coming to the WSOP this year have probably never been to a bar in their life and all their poker training happened in cyberspace.
To get back to my original question, what do the poker professionals have in common? There are probably a few answers depending upon who you talk to. Exceptional intelligence would probably be one of them while a willingness to take risks would likely be another.
In the end I would say that poker's overwhelming field of unique characters is one of its most attractive features.
So who is the true face of poker? Whoever wins the next Main Event, of course.
