Top 5 hands from High Stakes Poker Season 5

Published by: Daniel Skolovy

Praise Allah that High Stakes Poker was brought back for a fifth season. Watching actual poker being played for substantial sums of money is infinitely better than listening to Mike and Vince drone on about the umpteenth billion "race situation."

Of course, High Stakes Poker Season 5 lived up to the hype, establishing new precedents for huge pots and outrageous bluffs.

The top five hands from the fifth season, in no particular order:

durrrr "Posterizes" Greenstein, Eastgate:

36 minutes 45 seconds in.

Durrrr doing what he does best, firing multiple barrels and running up huge bluffs. This time getting both Greenstien and Eastgate to fold better hands.

Daniel Negreanu pays off quads when he beats nothing..... Again:

36 minutes in.

Daniel Negreanu adds another chapter to his HSP story and from what I can tell the running theme is Daniel finding himself in marginally tough spots and spazzing out, either calling off his chips or making a completely pointless shove. This hand being an example of the latter.

Greenstein sucks out on durrrr:

8 minutes in.

durrrr's maniacal image pays off and he gets Greenstein to put $270,000 in bad with top pair no kicker vs his aces, only to have the deck bail "the Bear" out.

Meltzer stacked on last hand of the season:

2 minutes 20 seconds in.

durrrr calls 30k pre-flop, flops second pair, goes runner-runner boat, and "somehow" gets the show's mark (No, not Daniel Negreanu, the other one) to donate $250,000.

durrrr v. Greenstein in the biggest pot ever played on TV:

1 minute in.

Last but certainly not least we have the biggest pot ever played on television.

Obviously no surprise that durrrr was involved. The hand is actually fairly standard with a big combo draw getting all-in vs an over pair. The pot however, is a very un-standard $919,000, shattering the previous record.

Bonus awesomeness is durrrr refusing to take any money back in favor of flipping a coin for the whole thing.
