Top 10 Best Poker Commercials of the Last 10 Years

The decade is almost over, a decade that encompasses the beginning and development of the poker boom.

With the game’s exploding popularity came the desire to market it to the people. And what better way to do that than the television commercial.

We’ve put together the 10 best poker TV commercials for you right here.

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and, if they did their job, you might even sign up for an online poker account.

#10 – Good Gracious, Ass is Bodacious!

The first commercial to make the list is actually an ad for Centrum Silver - vitamins for old people - but since it’s got poker and hot girls in it we’re including it.

#9 – Only a Donkey Would Make That Call

There are a lot of Full Tilt poker commercials. I mean A LOT. And after a while they started to feel sort of redundant. They were sweet at first but became predictable.

This one, however, had something unique. It strayed from the standard Pro vs regular Joe marketing that they cling to and just went straight pro vs. pro.

Matusow’s acting (i.e. being himself) comes off brilliantly and the captioning works nicely.

#8 – More Strip Poker

We don’t know what this commercial is for and frankly we don’t care.

The comedy is mediocre but there is something funny about making up fake winning hands like the “Longhorn cattle ranch straight flush” and “triple oil field royal deluxe”.

Also, the increasingly naked woman doesn’t hurt.

#7 – Talk About Being a Big Dog

Call us suckers for canine humor but the first time I saw this on TV I howled.  The re-raise with his snout is an obvious tell.

#6 – Some Jacks Have Moustaches

A parody of the Full Tilt Poker commercial we’re sure you’re familiar with, done by Tim Harmston.

#5 – Moneymaker’s Home Game

This commercial makes the list simply for historical value and as a tribute to the moment in time that proved to be the catalyst in reigniting the world’s interest in this great game of poker.

#4 – Booyakasha!

Probably the best post-hand celebrations in the biz. We’re putting both of these together since they’re essentially the same commercial.

The 15-second ad is always tough and they did a great job with these.

#3 Lederer’s Boring on TV Too

Erik Seidel punks Howard Lederer, classic. This one makes us laugh because this is how we envision most of Howard’s social interactions ending, with everyone leaving to go talk to someone more interesting.

#2 – Absolute Poker, Please Hold

A bit of a cheat here since this one commercial is really a combo of five separate Absolute Poker ads. Great campaign though.

The seat-open bit is gold, the secretary lady is good,  the chips falling into the soup cracks me up and what’s not to like about a guy at a cubicle being nervous that his boss might see him working on a bar graph instead of grinding online?

#1 – Phil Ivey Banned from TV

We still don’t know why this series didn’t make it on television. Phil Ivey isn’t exactly media-friendly and to get him in an ad like this, and not get it on TV, is a crime against all things holy.
