Today started off as a pretty sick day. I ran KK into AA several times early in the day, including in a $500 satellite to the WPT.
It was starting to look ugly and then my lucked started to turn around...literally to the polar opposite, where I found myself picking up AA against KK and coolering people in other sick fashions.
The only hand from the $163+rebuys that was worth noting (or I had enough time and wasn't too busy rolling a blunt to note) was my busto hand.
I shoved for ~26x the big blind with A9 against a raise on the button from Ralph "lilfishy987" Michalowski's A8. He tanked forever before spitecalling the crap out of me.
It was a good call by him, in that he binked an eight on the flop for 625k at 6/12k...it would have put me 2/9 at the final table, but instead I stone bubbled the final table for a little over three grand. I managed to stay composed ... with the help of blunt after blunt.
I grinded out a short stack in the Venetian satellite for quite a while, but managed to get some chips together just in time to take advantage of the absurdly tight (and correctly so) play that goes on deep in satellites.
Everything fell into place and I managed to guarantee a slight profit for the day after winning this package.
I had a couple of tournaments left after winning the satellite, including the $109+rebuys. I managed to make the final table with about an average stack thanks to one ridiculously lucky hand with two tables left.
I ran KK into AA again...but this time sucked out with a king on the flop against BadgerPro. Such a sick beat to such a nice guy and good player, but I'll take it if that's how I need to get it!
I managed to get "supadphat" to 4bet jam UTG five-handed at the final table with KQ into my AK, but couldn't get it to hold for 1.23 million chips.
I ended up taking 4th for ~$18k while he went on to win for ~$45k. Good game to him...if I wasn't going to win it, at least another Jersey guy took it down.
I'd like to thank my girlfriend for wanting to grind donkaments on Valentine's Day just as much as I did so that I could have a $30k day! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time to enjoy the beautiful weather that Southern California has to offer with her tomorrow, even if it does mean skipping the $1,500 NL at the LA Poker Classic...
