Top 5 Most Obnoxious Lines at the Felt

Guys, girls and everything in between, the following lines should never be spoken on a poker table. There are no exceptions and no special circumstances. Just don't say them... ever... for any reason.

5. From Rounders:

"Mr. Son of a Bitch, let's play some cards! "

You're not Teddy KGB, and most of you aren't even Russian. Even if you are Russian, it's all the more reason never to use this line.

4. From Rounders:

"Like my Uncle Les used to say, 'When the money is gone, it's time to move on.'"

You never had an Uncle Les. Even if you did, he never said this to you.

3. From Rounders:

"Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in the first half-hour at the table, then you are the sucker."

Listen, here's the thing. If you're saying this line at the table at any point in the session, then you are a sucker.

2. From Rounders:

"In my club I will splash the pot whenever ze f**k I please."

You don't own a club and again, you're not Russian. You shouldn't be splashing the pot in the first place.

1. From Rounders:

"Sorry John, I don't remember."

I agree with you, in the scenario Mike McD was in, it was a pretty witty line. But you're not playing Johnny Chan. Even if you are playing him, he's heard it more than once by now. Keep it to yourself.

That about sums up my Top 5 list of most overused poker lines. You might have noticed a theme among them? Remember people, if you've heard someone else say it, it's already a cliché.

Rounders is a great movie. It's one of my favorites. I have the whole thing pretty much memorized. But if you ever hear me spout off a Rounders quote at the table, kick me in the shin.
