International footballer Gerard Piqué, direct from Spain’s disastrous 2014 World Cup in Brazil, is looking to find some redemption in the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event.

An accomplished poker player Piqué bought into the $10,000 buy-in event with hopes of winning the $10 million first-place prize.

Piqué has already made several appearances on the European Poker Tour and final tabled a €5k 6-Max event at EPT Barcelona in 2011.

The Barcelona FC player also played last year’s Main Event. He made it to Day 2 but hit the rail well before the money.

Hopefully Piqué will be able to mount more of a performance in the WSOP than the World Cup where Spain went 1-2 and failed to make it to the knockout round.

It was a remarkable turn of events considering Spain won the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Euro Cup with Piqué playing a big part in both victories.

The Spanish centre-back isn’t the only athlete taking part in the 2014 WSOP Main Event as the Brooklyn Nets' Paul Pierce also took a seat in the massive tournament this morning.
