My last blogpost, I mentioned how I wasn't going to take my flight that morning to Biloxi because I wasn't feeling good and didn't want to fly sick.
I ended up finally leaving the walk in clinic that Sunday night around 2 am, prescriptions in hand, and made the decision to stay up and leave for the airport at 4:45 am for my 630 flight.
I hadn't packed yet or anything so I headed to Walgreens to get my prescriptions, and then back to my place to pack. I had to take 2 flights each around 1 hour and 45 minutes long to get to Biloxi, with a short layover in Charlotte.
It was a pretty miserable trip as my ears were clogged, I was really tired and falling in and out of sleep, but luckily I was able to make it here safely, arriving at 11 am.
My high school basketball coach lives about 5 minutes away from the Beau Rivage (the casino that the tournaments are held), and he’s letting me stay with him while I am here. He picked me up from the airport and we grabbed some Cracker Barrel and then headed back to his place.
I was able to get 3 hours of sleep and set my alarm so I could make it over to the casino in time to late register for the 500 rebuy PLO tournament.
I got over there in time to still get in the tournament and started getting in a groove. The tournament drew 54 players, with a fairly high percentage of them being solid players.
First prize was 40k, and I had my sights set on it. When we stopped for the night at 2 am, I had the chiplead with 190k of the 936k in play and still 12 players left.
We were told that the restart was at 3 pm, so I went to sleep unsure as to whether or not I was going to play the 1k event at noon the following day and try to multi table the 2 tournaments.
When I woke up, I was feeling as though it would be a waste to play the 1k and didn't feel like I was going to play it.
At around 1:15 pm, I was still at my coach's house and texted one of my friends who was playing the tournament and asked if I could still get in it. He let me know there was around 3 minutes left of late registration and that he could put me in if I gave him my players ID. I did just that and then got my stuff together and headed over to the casino.
I played that tournament for about 80-90 minutes or so, before the restart of the PLO began. In Day 2 of the PLO, I immediately starting running horrendous. I got it in as a 66% favorite on the flop, for a pretty huge pot, turn improved my hand giving me 88% equity, and got 5 outed on the river.
I then got it in with the nut straight against top 2 pair on a board of 6 5 3, for another huge pot and lost that one as well. I found myself now about 7th in chips with still 11 players left and did not want to bubble this final table. I managed my stack and made it to the final table 6th in chips.
I won some key pots here and there and felt like I played pretty amazing the whole tournament, making only one mistake which was actually on my bust hand. Anyways, with 5 players left, we took a 10 minute break and I rushed over to play my stack in the 1k tournament.
I had built my stack up to 40k from 12k, just by reshoving and basically winning coin flips or somehow coolering someone who thinks I'm just there to gamble since I'm only looking at a few hands.
On the last hand before dinner break in the 1k tournament, I get 9-9 all in pre for an 80k pot vs AK and lose, I luckily barely had the guy covered and was left with 2700 chips at the 600/1200 level.
I go back to my PLO final table which was now restarting and end up busting in 5th. I lost a pot vs Michael Binger for his tournament life, my AA25 double suited, vs his QT84 ds, and flopped 93% equity with top set and the nut flush draw.
I then busted playing a hand pretty bad as the shortstack and then waited to play my last 2 blinds in the 1k.
I run my stack up in the 1k, winning my first all in with 65o making the nutterballs!!! And then winning 88 vs AJ and then AJ vs KQ and next thing I knew I had a stack and started using it.
I was running over my table and then busted 2 of the 3 good players that were at the table. I finished the night making the final table with average stack which was only 20 bbs b/c the structure was piss awful.
I came in to the final table and immediately went to work. Coolers galore. I won AK vs 99 vs Liv Boeree to bust her in 9th. And then got AA vs 99 vs QQ when each of them had 20 bbs and held.
And then crushed the rest of the tournament and won it all. 60k first prize, a bracelet and a trophy. This was my 8th live win in the last 21 months and it felt great.
I know I'm playing really well right now, but also I just have confidence and am feeling good and running hot. Hoping to keep this going in the 5k PLO which I am off right now to play. GL me!
On a side note, my horse- Dan O'Brien, made the final table of the 2k last night, and they will be restarting at 4 pm today. GO DAN!!! Also congrats to my buddy Mohsin Charania who shipped the 1k UBOC tournament last night for 56k. Doing work over here everybody.
