Here at PokerListings.com we've never been proved wrong. We have a secret. It's because we never make flat-out statements, about anything.
That's why when we shine the spotlight on a player the furthest we go is saying they might be good at poker.
In light of her online poker accomplishment yesterday we're saying just that about Liv Boeree.
If ever there was a marketable poker player it's Liv Boeree. She got into the game through a reality television show and, even though it sometimes seems irrelevant with beatiful women in poker, she can actually post results.
Usually poker pros have to win something big to be offered a sponsorship deal but Boeree did the opposite. It was only until after she signed with Absolute, and then switched to UltimateBet that she took down EPT San Remo for $1.7 million.
Her EPT title earned her more than just a mammoth payday. She also parlayed it into an upgrade in the endorsement department. She jumped ship from UB and was signed on as part of PokerStars' ever-expanding Team Pro.
That she hadn't taken something notable down previous to San Remo wasn't for lack of making deep runs. Everything has to go just right to win but it's paramount to give yourself the opportunity by making it into the money. Boeree had no trouble there.
Her Hendon page is long and it's populated with solid results in side events all over the world. She's got over $300k in winnings in addition to that massive EPT score.
Yesterday she added $147,000 to her bankroll by taking down the $215 Sunday Warm Up on PokerStars. She beat over 4,700 players and defeated James "mig.com" Mackey heads-up for the win.
It would be tough to find a more skilled heads-up opponent than Mackey. He won a WSOP bracelet in 2007 and has WCOOP and SCOOP titles to go with it.
The final hand was uninteresting though, with both players around 20BB and the money going in preflop with pocket sevens for Boeree and A-6 for Mackey.
Plenty has been written about this young woman but the bullet points remain impressive. I mean, she's got a degree in astrophysics and she shreds heavy metal guitar. What could be more impressive than that?
We did a really great video profile of her at the WSOP in 2009. Check it out below to get to know Liv Boeree a little better.
